Confused!?!?!!

I've just got my mpc 2500 last week and i brought the CD/RW Drive which i have already fitted and the Akai EXM128 which i am waiting to be delivered.

My question is the EXM128 only holds like 128MB which is barely nothing is it??? I wanted to sample a part of a tune and when i was loading it off the cd which i couldn't fully do because i have no memory it said that track alone was somethong like 32MB and that track was approx only 3 minuites long!

Is what im guessing right, i paid like £80 for basically **** all?

What do you all use, how much can they store and how much do they cost in BP . Any helps much appreciated.

Are you kidding me? 128mb should be more than enough memory to sample. Talk to the people who don't have the luxury of 128mb. If you can't make magic with 128mb, you're in the wrong business.

Yeah it should be enough to sample but im figuring that 128mb won't last that long if you want to store a ton of audio samples to it, i just cant get my head around some of this technical jargon. i dont want to have to keep deleting samples to make room for new ones if you get what im saying.

Are MB larger than GB??????

1000 mb are about the same as 1 gb. gb is bigger than mb.
1 minute of stereo sampling in CD quality takes approx. 10mb.
So you get more than 12 min into the ram.

some 128mb RAM is not recogized by the MPC.
take MUTEC RAMS , they work fine

Read up on what RAM is. I think you have the wrong idea about what it does/is.

O.K cheers for that, that helps. It says the EXM 128 is ram so can you fit that aswell as a hard drive or can you only have one or the other? Because i've just found a Hard drive that is 80GB that is listed compatible on the akai pro site and its only £50 where as the exm128 has cost me £80. Should i cancel the EXM 128 and buy the hard drive?

Oh, I see what you're saying, as far as storage the 128mb of the MPC isn't for storing samples to the unit, it's for sampling and loading up programs for the session until you turn off your MP (or purge, of course). As far as storing samples, beats, projects, etc. that's what the Compact Flash Card Reader is for. Given the included 32mb card isn't enough to store that much, you can always buy a card with more storage. Also, a lot of people are going for the internal hard drive route which is probably the most practical option for saving and storing data.

You really should. The hard drive is for storing your stuff
PERMANENTLY. The EXM is for holding the samples TEMPORARILY:
so you need both.
The advantage of a hard disk is to store huge amounts of data.
the advantage of RAM is the much quicker access to it for the MPC.

You don't need both, I don't have a hard drive and am doing just fine without it.

The RAM is the first thing you should get. I would say it is a must.

As far as the hard drive..you can get away with using a CF card. However, 40 gig hard drives are in the same price range as a 2 gig compact flash card. Also, hard drives saves/load data faster than a CF card.
