Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

I love this little Battle-Thread.
I even have too look every night what´s going on with you two samurais :x
But as my grandma works for AKAI(she´s actually writing the O.S.),
I have to say that u got to be patient with the girls & boys @akai
(they are not the fastest humans on earth).
And if I complain about their funky little beatboxes or even better the O.S., my grandma wouldn´t send me her wonderfull spacecookies from Japan anymore

was sampling today and notice there is actually a countdown of seconds left...in trim mode cursors up and down zoom in 'n out... shift + left/right cursor zooms in 'n out of only selected/highlighted area of a sample. when zoomed in section of a sample and (L) left view is highlighted Q1 After + Slider to rewinds from start to end point...

thought I'd share...dont know if anyone came across this and I'm not about to read thru 12 pages of e-war between jah and ketchup to check.

in my opinion JJ pulled some really nice stunts in this one. and made working on mpc much more convienient than before. since this is free version of OS, I think we might be expecting more enhancements in
not so free version :D ?

you're my new hero.

Have you ever done postprod projects? It is evident now that your "workflow" does not involve the same kind of stuff that i need it to do, so you can stop imagining things...

I bought my MPC2500 new, paid a lot of cash for it, and was disappointed that the MTC didn't work. Who wouldn't be? Since there is a lot of cool stuff about it that like I decided to keep it, but seriously, I thought Akai would have fixed this a long time ago.

You obviously did very little research about the $1600 plus machine you have. Everything from the hardware interface, operating system, and demo songs were all done by Japanese employees. So if you paid alot of cash and was disappointed that a major feature didn't work as advertised, why didn't you simply return it? Because you liked the cool stuff? Like what? I am curious to know what made you keep such a worthless piece of Akai garbage. (note: I am happy with my MPC).

So..you do much Post Production work huh? Your MPC is best used in Pre-production. If you actually knew how to use your DAW, you would know a quick way to offset any timing difference of recorded audio. But since you don't seem to know, it is unlikely that you are any good at it..meaning Post Production work.

I believe that is the plan.

What? Says who? I understand where you are sort of coming from, but think a little bit further than your basic hiphop workflow please. I've heard your stuff on Myspace man, you don't have an iota of cred with me anymore geek boy.

tsk tsk tsk, you have no idea what you are talking about, that's for sure. You're just an amateur with mickey mouse skills but a very big mouth.

Ok, that's it, I'm not replying to your nonsense in this thread anymore.

Don't expect a reply to your reply to this, but go ahead and have the last word anyway. :P

I wasted way too much time with you already.

For what you have contributed to this forum, you have no cred. You can't even use an MPC and a DAW

Anyway, thanks for checking out my page. Much appreciated. I will have some new material up as soon as I can pry myself away from my PC trying to teach you how to use your DAW.

Let me know which DAW you are using so I can help you out. FL Studio? Cakewalk? Cubase SL? Let me know. I use Nuendo 3 and it takes about 3 keystrokes to line up audio. I wasn't too much an amateur to figure out that function ??? What about you? Still struggling

So if you learned anything (which I seriously doubt) ths going back and forth wouldn't be a total waste of your valuable time. You now know how to use an MPC (sort of) and you know now that there are numerous functions in your DAW software that can assist you. But you do have to crack open the manual instead of asking silly questions in a forum. Some of those DAW forums (which have bigger nerds than I) will eat you alive asking silly questions that are in the manual.

So, I accept your gratitude for pointing you in the right direction :P

replace the word "Best" by "most often".

99.9% of the time, what something is "best" used for is what it's "most often" used for. a pencil is best used for writing, so it's not a coincidence that writing is what it's most often used for.

that being said, can you please let me know what it is you're using the mpc for that you don't consider as being pre-production? are you recording/mixing/adding effects to vocals with it? are you mastering your compositions on the mpc?

i mean, you said you were having problems syncing the MPC with your DAW. i would say that most of the things that you do before recording to DAW would be pre-production, and once your beat is tracked out in your DAW, i'd doubt you're going to be using the MPC after that, right? well, unless you're using it to sit on while editing on your DAW. i don't know.

please explain.

what, the concept behind MTC? :)

scoring to picture is a different thing than making a beat for a hiphop track.

you guys seem happy MTC doesn't work? :?

i'm quite aware of what MTC is.

the question i wanted you to answer was:

scoring to picture i don't consider pre-prod.

adding stuff to an almost finished track on a film or album, i don't think that's pre-prod.

maybe, but do you know why it is used? :)

give me an example where YOU would need MTC.

no, i can't, i've been using mpc's for 5 years yet i have no idea how to use them. :? (sense the sarcasm).

one example: you can use MTC if you want to record your tracks individually to a multi-track but you have more tracks than you have I/O on the mpc or your multi-track.

i.e. i have an mbox that can record a max of 2 analog tracks at a time. i sync protools up with the mpc via MTC so that i can record 2 tracks, arm 2 more, then record 2 more tracks and they'll be in sync as if i had recorded them all at once. i repeat the process until i have all tracks from the mpc in protools.

You are still talking about MTC

Use the suggested method of arming the MPC (1.22) to prepare for MTC sync. Record the MPC into any software that you can get your hands on. Use the features in your DAW software for editing, which is simple to do.

Or, just use the JJ OS where MTC works correctly as you have reported/implied numerous times.
