Digital out/in

can someone explain what it is ? are there benefits to using it ? i just looked it up but im having a stupid day so im looking for it in lamens terms

what comes out of your mpc's stereo outs is audio. this passes through your cables and at every stop, gets "interpreted." this is why different machines have different "sounds" - their converters spit out their interpretation of the digital source differently.

digital sends the 0s and 1s to your computer (delta 66 in my case). it bypasses the 1k converters and shoots a lossless copy of your main out to the pc. it's just another out option. personally, i like the sound quality of this. i send my spdif to my delta and then route that signal back through my delta's outs to my mixer. essentially, i use it to moniter my mpc's sounds using the superior converters of the delta66 rather than the (in my opinion) inferior converters of the 1k.

don't get me wrong, i definitely like how the 1k sounds when it samples through analog. i just don't want to hear the same characteristic doubled.

but on that note, you can also sample through spdif. from your pc. in my case, i sometimes sample using the delta's converters instead of the mpc's because it has a different quality - it's a bit cleaner, so i do it for samples that really need to be hifi. when i do anything with a low end, it's always the mpc because the cable noise/AD converters make it burn.
