Which is the best MPC to buy?

I'm a rare grooves, new sounds, beat junkie. I want to create my own sounds. What is the best MPC to with? I want the 1000 because of the price. I like the 2500 because of the Direct Recording. But if the 1000 has direct recording than I would go with the 1000. But Pete Rock is my favorite producer and uses the 2500. So I want that one. I guess what I'm saying is I'm trying to get as much bang for my buck!! Please help----djxfactor

get a 1k and the JJ os and u will have the equavelent + more or the 2500 minus the better pads

what is "jj" and which has the better pads?

jj is the creator of unofficial OS for mpc 1000 available thru download.
i never felt the need for the jj os, but many people are happy with it.

Many people say the pads on the 1000 are not good, because the are not responsive enough, and according to some people, the pads dont last long. I have no problems with the pads (so far) but Ive had mine for only a couple months.

So can I direct record into MPC 1000. I guess that is kind of a dumb ? because if you can sample than I guess you can direct record. But I'm asking becasue I saw a video on the MPC2500 where directly recorded his voice into the track. So I was like I got to have that. Sorry for so many of the same ?'s. i dont think so. but u can sample while the sequence is playing then save it to a pad.

the 1k can direct record with the jenius os

the new OS for the 1k basically makes it the best "1st MPC" in my opinion.. if you wanna move on to the grittier older mpcs later.. thats fine..

but i think the 1k is by far the best MPC to learn on.

pete rock uses the 2000xl not the 2500 if im lying im flying

maybe he has a 2500 aswell

I interned at a studio and had the priviledge to see Pete Rock make a few tracks and he really doesnt use the mpc that much, he just endorses it for profit. most of his sounds still came from the sp1200 and then he 'll dump to mpc, 2000xl, 2500 it didn't matter whichever mpc was rented he used.I like the 2kxl, the only thing on the 2500 that ever caught my eye was the 4 midi outs like the 60/3000 but if you are a pure beat junkie chances are you aint using much midi

Im contemplating on what mp to get myself....it really depends on what your trying to do with your production......i dont need all the effects and what not....just basic skeletons and grimy stuff...just thinkin about getting the 2k....or 500

There are strenghts and weaknesses with every AKAI unit.... Get the sampler that best accomodates your setup and direction...

2000XL Blue(with Internal Zip Drive)
Pros=Same as XL
Cons=The new drives wouldn't install the new os that supports zip use, Back to no expansion boards(discontinued shipping the boards)

Pros= We finally have a card reader instead of those old hard disks
Cons=No d**n expansion boards(we can't win)

Pros=A super sampler with lots of potential... 512mb memory, dual faders
Cons=A lil buggy... Different models with different options & more $$$$

2500
Pros=Good build, Dual Q-Link, Output board built in, CD-RW option
Cons=Buggy(JJ Fixed that too... This is a good buy now)

1000
Pros=built for today's technology. USB support, compact size, price friendly
Cons=Pads were poorly built, buggy os, no tech support, former XL users ere complaing about the lack of features they were used to(no more with JJ os)

500
Pros=Went back to old pad design, extra compact, battery operated(I guess)
Cons=$800 was too much for a extra stripped down model of a MPC.
