Does the 1000 do a memory test everytime u load a new memory stick? If it does, does that mean minimum 4 min. start up everytime you turn it on?

No, it just does it the first time. It takes a while though, it is doing the testing 4 times.

Is the memory module specifically tagged for AKAI in the SPD eeprom??? You could get around this if you knew the special manufacture specific bytes (98-255) in the SPD.

To dump the SPD from one of the AKAI memory modules on a windows computer one could use...

The store where I got my 1k here in sweden says that they have successfully installed a non-akai 256mb memory to get 128mb working memory. I've asked about details, will post them here when I get them.

It's of course a bit more expensive than finding a working 128mb module, but still less expensive than original akai memory.

No, not yet. But I'm going to buy one come monday and I'll hopefully be able to give you all the details then.

I think I'll actually bring the MPC to the store and test it right there.

finally got the proper G chip, the BB version, funny, it didn't even memory-test it (tho i forced the momory test by starting up with play held down and all was well) BUT it only sees 64 meg, not 128. the dude in holland with the same transcend chip got 128 BUT thats totally fine by me for $35, 64 meg is a huge step over 16 and by the time i need all 128 i'm sure the price will be much lower. i am used to working on gear like an ensoniq mirage or a 2000 with floppy etc etc so i keep my sound short and i'm not much one for phrase sampling. already cut up the kit-of-the-week stuff into smaller and more unique sounds - long rides become more useful hats etc.

hi everyone!
today I bought my mpc1000 with 128Mb installed here in Sweden. the memory card is not from Akai. it's really a 256MB card but the mpc only recognize 128Mb like Tiny said. here are the details about it:
the sticker says " SD 256M PC-133"
there are 4 memory chips on each side. they are marked "VT3625164T-7H" with "2A 0143" underneath.
the card itself is marked with "YG 2" and 94V-0
94V-0 is also printed inside mpc just in front of the memory holder.
the akai card only has 4 memory chips. perhaps that's why it won't see all 8 chips on my card?

I've just been with mine to the store (probably the very same store. ) and installed the memory, and you saved me some number reading/writing.

Memory test took a while, but all 4 passes passed just fine!

What brand are those memory sticks? I tried searching all over but to no avail here in the states.
