Do you mean can you hear which samples are on the pads from the load screen??

after you sample a sound, you get that "keep or retry" screen. This is where you assign the sample. On my xl, I could find an empty spot by hitting a pad to see if there was anything on there already. As soon as I found an empty pad, I knew I could assign a sample. On the 2500, it just shows you what note the pad is, but doesn't play any sound.

you're right. when you hit a pad with the "keep or retry" window open, it doesn't play whatever's on that pad.

another thing that bugs me a little bit with the 2500 as opposed to the 2000xl, is that with the 2000xl if you were in the load screen, you could hit the pads and it would play them. on the 2500, the only time in the load screen where you can hit a pad and it will play a sound is after you load a sound to memory and it's asking you to assign the sound to a pad. once you assign that sound to a pad, once again you can't play the pads.

the reason that bugs me is because the way i work is that i find a sample, chop it up and then add drums to it. after loading a drum sound to a pad, while in the load screen i'd hit the pads that i was using for the melody just to see if the drum sound i chose sounds right with the other samples. if after loading it i decided that i could find a better drum that matched, i'd continue searching. can't do that now.

True. But you can always load up your samples without assigning them to pads , and then do this in program mode.Right?

Cool. I haven't noticed too much wrong with the Akai OS so far. Kinda weird that you can audition the pads while in sample mode, but you can't hear what's on the pads when you need to assign a sound. Ohh well, I really just got the MP fired up today. Hopefully I won't find a bunch of problems with this current OS. :)

That sounds odd, because when in that page I press a pad, I can hear what's on that pad..Of course it is a plus thing if you have made a program before you go to load sounds, but still, I can hear them sounds on the pads..

If you can audition the pads after you sample a sound then I need to know what I'm doing wrong. DO you have an akai OS, or the JJ one? I'm using the akai OS and my pads play nothing.
