What is your drumming technique?

Hey everyone I just wanted to know if, when you sample your drums do you put them anywhere or do you always put your snares, kiks, hat in the same location?

I seems like it would be better to always have them in the same location.

Could you guys give me some examples of how you position your drum sounds? I mean, for example is it better to have kiks on pad A16 vs A1?

yeah i pretty much put them in the same place give or take.
bass drum bottom left, snr to the right of that. hi hat next to that and an open hi hat next to that. on the next row above that, maybe a lower bass drum to mix with the first one, and assorted cymbals.
on the next row above that maybe a bass sample, and assorted hits to mix in with the drum set. and i usually use the top row for just various samples.
so kinda a different set for a,b,c,d.

I use the gen midi format. I use a keyboard controller sometimes so it help to have the kits arranged this way.

ok, each bank has 4 bass drums, 4 hh's and 4 snares,

the bd's are in a sqare of 4 pads on the bottom, the snares in another square next to it, the third row from the bottom is hh's, the top row is assorted.

I set it up so that all snares are on the first column (left side pads), all bass drums on the fourth column (right side), all hihats on the third column and percussion on the second column. The reason for this is that I usually assemble my beats by playing the snare with my left hand and the bass drum with my right hand along to the click track. Then I'll add hihats and percussion. I used to play a little bit of drums and this layout seemed most logical since a right handed drummer hits the snare with his left hand and hihats with his right.

I'm interested in hearing how others set it up.

it doesnt matter to me.
i normally make my melody.
then ill just loop it and pound some drums on the pads to figure out what i want the pattern to be.
then when i figure it out, i lay a snare as a dummy track then i sequence all my drum kit hits on seperate tracks anyway.

so spacing doesnt really matter at all.
