2000xl and 1000

The difference in sound is not that big, but its there

Although I can only attest to an absolute difference between the 2 in the headphone amp....by the time it hit my monitors, I wasn't using the same desk between my 1k and 2kxl. But in the 'phones, there was a noticeable difference with the edge in sound quality going to the 2kxl, particularly in bass tightness and stereo placement.

Not a big edge, both are good sounding machines IMO. Plus the master EQ on the 1k makes the overall sound very flexible.

just the sp-404, a series of guitar pedals, and even my little boss multitrack has some mad filters.

Master eq and compresser on the 1k will make it sounds however u want

i turn em off though - seriously, i think people put too much emphasis on the master-quality of a track before it passes from the mpc. mpcs are best used as compositional tools, not DAWs - let your software/hardware do the housecleaning. the mpc is for the dirty and fun work of hammering out a song, making beautiful drums, building the structure - it's for placing midi notes.

of course you need to learn to layer, and find good samples to mix - but at a point you really have to push the final product way out of your head until you get your stuff together in terms of orchestration/composition. it'd be like a composer saying "that violin needs a little compression" in a concert hall - just isn't the right tiem or place.

however, the master eq and compressor for the 1k/2500 is GReAT for live use, making the most of the provided PA. i once did a show that had the grossest speakers w/ no trebs and i just bumped up the treble in my master eq and counted myself lucky tyhat i was able to at least do something...

nah i use the master eq and compresser all the time makes such a huge diffrence on some samples that sound to muffled or lacking in highs...

The 2000 series are not known for there punchy sound, only the 60/3000 are.
