Harddrive noise

I just got my MPC it has a 20 Gig IBM Travelstar Hard drive installed and it makes a sort of swirling noise for about 4mins after start up is that normal, i realize is probably going though the samples i already got on there... about 9GB worth, just wondering if that sound is normal? or should it be dead quiet? or do i need a new harddrive.

i don't and i can speak for a lot of others on here.... there shouldn't be any noise. but you would hear noise if the hard drive is old.

i have a 100gb hard drive with about 60gb worth of stuff on there.

yeah it's true that older hard drives are noisey. that's perfectly normal. so i gotta co-sign. and i also gotta co-sign about newer drives being quiet. my new hard drive is so quiet that i can't hear it at all, unless i actually put me ear against the machine.

btw.... 60gb out of 100gb filled already? man, that's alot of recording you've done. i can only imagine how many albums you got on there by now. we gotta put you in the guinness book of world records, sparq!
