How would you get out every last bit of bass response?

I know this question has been asked before, over, and over. Yet when I try to get the result it will not work how I wan't.

I want to be able to get out all of the bass out of any song I wan't so I can layer my own drums and bass over the vocals. I know that there will be residule high mids and highs and thats cool.

The best example of what im talking about is the song stan by eminem. If you listen to the beginning you can hear dido with her music lightly playing in the back and then they drop in the bass line with dums over. this is what I wan't to be able to do with any song cuz I have so many ideas and i need to get them out of my head.

I have tied to use a eq to just straight up cut anything below 3khz with infinity and there is allways some bass response in my monitors, however slight.

Does anyone know of a plug in for pro tools that can handle this, and if so could you give me the exact settings you would use?

Does anyone know of a computer progam that is designed strictly for this purpose?

Remember all I want to do is be able to do what that eminem song does in the begining to any song that I like.

eq is your friend....what you have to remember about eq is its all relative...if you go and high pass the bass out you may find its a bit too harsh so reduce some highs as well until you end up with that telephone type effect...

the telephone effect is just the most extreme setting of what your trying to achieve.....you have to be far more subtle but what i was saying is that if you pull the bass out it will be too toppy....you cant just mess around with one freq range you need to even it out.....you'll get there just takes some fiddling....

Dubmonkey said it all... EQ is the big factor right here... A nice hig band pass can do it... Then just smooth everything out with an EQ... I do everything in Sound forge and Adobe Audition... I barely use band passes... I generally use just EQ, but the band pass works too.

EQ Killer by electrix does this in real time. i found one used for $50. it does exactly what your talking about: cutting (or even splitting) frequency bands

You can do this with sound forge's graphic eq.

Do it once so you get the main parts out and leaving the vocals, process, then open the graphic eq again and do it again, removing more bass this time if that's what you want to remove, this will re eq the already eq'd part and will get you more results than just one pass of eq or a hardware eq.
