why is this:

i get a loop (usually 1 bar disco/soul loop) -loop it so it sounds perfect

when i try to add drums they sound in time at the begining of the loop but start to slip towards the end of the loop,

so, I adjust the tempo (slow it by apprx. 1bpm)

now the drums sound perfectly in time,

but there's a tiny gap at the end of my loop.

so i tweak start point and tempo to get it as close as poss, but it still happens.

it's like it needs timestretching just a fraction (mpc 2000 classic owner)

I've been told that is due to "latency" (?)

my own conclusion is this happens "just because"

anyone kno whats going on here? would it be solved by timestretching on 2000xl?

or, am i gonna have save my pennies for a computer and a copy of melodyne????

Happens because you loop is not chopped and triggered exactly where it should be. Happens because the original tempo of the loop doesn't match your mpc exactly, just because the loop says 85 and your mpc says 85 they are still most likely slight off sync. 85 bpm in different gear is not always the same. That loop was made on different gear..

Cut, chop as precies as you can, use timestrech for the rest. Trial and error, there is no set perfect way to loop. Their is just your technique and skill. Sound Forge has a loop tuner. Acid also has a loop tuner that is pretty damn good I must say.

turn off quantize for the drums, and get ready to hit the undo seq button many times till u get it right. Or chop at the begining of the samples drum hits , and get it to play simultaneous with ur drum pads.

add your drums before you put it the loop using the click or step edit to make sure they are on time then make the loop MONO and have it start at 1.00.00 using step then adjust the bpm till it works.
