That cheap, there must be something wrong with it. If not, definitely go for it. I'll buy it off you for $800

hiphop productions.com , go to tips and tricks, then click on "grit wars", they have about six samples put through the sp and the Mp to show you the difference in the sounds.

There's a forum board for the SP1200/MPC2KXL, you'll have to sift through a lot of B.S. because there's a lot of immature little kids on there that just wanna talk smack (thanks MPC Tutor for keeping THIS board idiot-free).
You might find some tips on there though.
It's at:

You can download an SP1200 manual at:
http://www.emu.com/products/archives/archives.html

Even if you hate the SP, you could sell it on ebay for between $1200-1500
You made a nice score.

BTW, is it the original (blue & grey), or reissue (black & grey)??

itsthe reissue but barely used today , i learned a bit about it , i dont use the sequencer , because of my mpc , i must admit the drums are raw right off the wax , i like that feature , all in all i gotta give it another week to see if i will be putting it on ebay , i know this is a machine to ride with and time will prove if it worth keeping seeing i am broke and have a mp and pro tools , might make me wanna sell , its a lot of money to pass up and thedrums keep getting more bangin

how are heads using the sp with the mpc its day 3 and the drums are freaking ridiculous on the sp , they bang so hard , still havent tried sampling the sp drums into the mp and layering , gonna get on that as far as sequencing i still dont mess with it just taking drums off wax , this thing and the mp are like brothers somebody hit me with some tips

I like to just sample drums into the SP, then from the SP into the MPC. That way you get the SP crust, but then you can use the MPC's envelope settings, layering, and sequencer.
When you sample out of the SP into the MPC, mess with the SP's output/filter setting (menu#17) to get the best filter setting for each different drum sound. The MPC has a filter too, but the SP filters can sound SWEET.

Also, mess with the trick where you sample with the turntable on 45rpm, then pitch the sample back down in the SP. This will in effect give you more sampling time, but plus it makes the sound of the samples extra crusty and grainy (which can be killer on snares, horns, etc.)

Some guys will use the MPC to trigger the SP via MIDI which is fine, but you can only trigger the SP's samples at one pitch....and when you trigger the SP externally, the pitch can't be set with the normal tune setting. You have to go into the menu and set it (MIDI init tune or something like that).

I would give the SP a year or so before you decide to sell it. It's a real fun machine to use by itself too once you get into it. The SP is a somewhat hard machine to come by so don't take it lightly. Plus, the way you came into it, all cheap and brand new, suggests fate.

yeah yesterday i just went drum diggin , i have been using the 45 technique on the mp for a while and thats how i have been getting them ill drums. best drums i ever heard , i guess i have to get more break records , sampling the sp into the mp would be my best bet , i messed a little with the sequencer ,i will get moreinto it with time , the trunacate editing is easy to set up drum sounds , i still havent made a beat yet i am just waiting for my mbox , i have been digging though. i need to just dig with the machines off with a pad and write down the samples then power up and freak , to save those screens , i guess i will keep this thing for a while and just let time tell good looking itchyvinyl , i will probably be postin more threads on this , anybody feel free to help a brother out , and this thing came out when i was 6 years old
