after reading a lot of posts here talking about what everyone wants in new jj`s os i`ve a big doubt:

can be possible (in the future) to make the 1k sampling @ 12 bits?

i`m an amateur user so i can`t know if my machine can work with a different bitrate than 44100 16bits.

no, it can't. but the deal would be that the sample stays in 16 bit the entire time but is duped into sounding 12 bit, like a bit crushing direct x plugin

the bit DEPTH of a sampler is a limitation of the hardware, not the software within...

btw its:

bit DEPTH

and

sample RATE

A good way to emulate lower bits sampling is to sample at a low input level then normalize..theorically speaking it's quite valuable..are you gonna get happy with it is another question..Personally I just try to have the best sound possible from my samples so..I'd prefer get offered Apogee converters than a Akai s950..The S950 is good but its sound doesn't rely only on the 12bits, you can adjust the frequency too..just as if you were sampling at different speeds..this was meant to save memory when you only had 2Mo ram..

this will allow you to capture any source through the 12 bit architecture of the sampling delay--just turn feedback all the way down and mix all the way wet. voila, 12 bit sound. for $45 and you can still use your mpc 1000!

Here's an idea that might help..

Take a 16-bit sample, downsample it in a PC wav editor to 12-bit, upsample back to 16-bit.

It's not ideal and you'll get some quantization errors and stuff but overall I think you'd get close to that 12-bit sound.
