lo-fi on the 3000? Can i resample?

Hi, Ive got the mpc 60 and i love making beats on it.

I have the old OS and Im thinking of upgrading it to the OS 3.1.
Along with the OS upgrade Ill put SCSI and RAM expansion.

Ive looked up the prices and I am wondering if it is best to sell my mpc60 and buy a 3000 instread of upgrading my 60, cos 3000's memory can go up to 32Mb and it has filters too.

BUT i am thinking that i wont have the 40khz 12bit sampling option.

So... When i sample my drums or whatever on 44.1khz on the 3000, can i internaly resample then at 21.5khz or a lower that 44.1khz rate?

I really want the lo-fi sound.

I don't think the 3000 resamples for you. You would have to sample and then dump it to a computer or buy a mixer that has different sample rate capablilties.

You can get the 3k to sound fuzzy but not as lo fi as 60.

no. there is no internal way to get what you want in the 3000.
if you want to you could record your stuff to cassette and sample it again.
or do some trips in the computer with your samples previous to sampling or copying them into your 3000.

I dont want tape hiss. i just want my drums sampled at a lower sampling rate.

A thing that i already do with my mpc60 is sample drums from wavelab but i pitch them up like 9 octaves or something and then when i go into tuning i tune them -90.

It really sounds like sp12.

Use this trick :

sample your shit at 45 RPM, the use the tune function to get it to play at normal speed....

it's essentially a lower bitrate...


or you can just sample it, send it to wavelab with a CF cardreader, convert to lower bitrate, send it back....

turn the gain switch in the back to 'mid', but watch the signal in your mixer. it should add some distortion to your samples.

A few notes:

1. whatever you're doing, you won't get exactly that
feel from the MPC3000
2. whatever you're doing, it don't sound like an SP

i dunno about the bitrate but im sure you mean the sample rate.

when i want to sample something that has a certain harmony or notes like a bassline or whatever, how much should i tune it down to make it sound EXACTLY like the original???

that would help me out alot!

i know i know.. thats why im thinking of getting an SP if i have some extra money.. but really i love the mpc60 so much i dont want to switch to the 3000... but id want a 3000 just for the experience of it...
