How do you format the internal drive???

Perhaps a naive question.....But I've searched and I can't find the answer...

After upgrading the os, it's recommended to re-format the internal hard drive...

The format screen only allows me to format the memory card...??

How do I format the internal hard drive?

The area that says Device:MEMORY CARD change it to Device:HARD DISK

Dude.....I'm not that stupid....

I cannot select the hard drive....

It says device: memory card

I cannot change it to "hard drive".....the wheel won't change it.....the arrow buttons won't change it......


I pressed "mode".....PAd 2 (LOAD)......F3 (utility).....then it says device :memory card.......I cannot change it to hard drive........


Is there a memory protect function that I need to overide?

Sounds like your drive may not be inserted in fully.

I'm gonna check that and then check another drive...This one is not showing up at all....

I have a 3000, 2000,2000xl,and a 4000, so my friend just brought me the machine to have a look, figuring I was the akai guy.......

He now tells me the drive came from a raid array in an old PC......I'm gonna check the jumper settings.

I believe another guy in these forums had a similar problem with a drive he got out of an old laptop.....more than likely it's the HD.

sounds like it could be jumper settings - it is an IDE disk isnt it? not scsi.

i guess it would have a different connector if it were scsi tho.

it is recommended to remove all jumpers from the hdd...
the mpc does not need them (no master/slave situation, no problem with hdds over 32gb size)...
also check if the hdd sits firmly in the hdm-10 adapter and the whole package connects good inside the mpc...
maybe the drive is faulty if it is somewhat older. always decide wisely if you want to save a few bucks on such a device when the possibility to get errors or lose samples and songs is getting up...
