Midi problems with Microkorg. plz help

I just bought a new microkorg and I want to have it connected with the mpc... So I hooked the out of the micro to in of the mpc.. in of micro to out of mpc...

Now when I go to "Midi" and I play a key.. I hear both the sounds I have on the mpc and the microkorg sounds... What I want is.. NOT play the mpc sounds on the microkorg but record the microkorg sounds onto the mpc via Midi. Like when I press a key I would hear a snare and a note.. I dont want that. I just want to hear the note from the microkorg. No mpc sounds. How do I accomplish this? The manual is confusing.

You need the micro to be the controller for the MPC.
microOUT to mpcIN. mpcOUT-A to microIN.

the micro must be set to LOCAL OFF in the MIDI menu, also choose a MIDI channel. from this point on it will act as a midi controller for the mpc, and a soundbank over the selected channel.

the mpc track must be changed from DRUM to MIDI, Program to NONE, channel selected to xA, x being the channel from 1 to 16 you selected on the micro. so if the micro is set to channel 1, choose 1A.

if you want the micro to control the mpc samples, just change to a new track and choose DRUM, then select the PGM.

you can use the korg's keyboard or the mpc's pads to trigger sounds at any time, the main thing is to realize you have to use the mpc's menu to select the sound source....

I can only use one sound right? Whenever I change to another sound on the microkorg, everything ive played changed to the sound I switched too... too bad its mono huh?

also if I want to record another melody on another track.. How can I change the volume of that without changing the volume of the previous recording? Is it possible?

yes, the microKorg can only produce one sound at a time. you could always hook its audio outputs to the MPC and sample the micro's playback if you need more than one sound from it.... or get a polyphonic synth....

When I turn on everything, And I play the beat again, the sound I used for the microkorg is set differently for some reason.. Is there a way to save the setting I had when I recorded for the beat? (last question)

Hi korean...

I got me a microkorg to so i guess i can help. like many synths, any changes you make are lost when you switch off the power, so save your edited patch before you turn off the power.

The downside to this is that the microkorg only has 128 patch memory and these are used by the presets, so you have to overwrite your presets to save an edited patch.

Go to the korg website and cop the microkorg editor, i wont tell you what it does. But it is absolutely necessary, trust me.
