mpc and pc to speak same language

I installed internal hard drive in my mpc 2000xl plugged into internal scsi hooked pc up to external scsi. if I format ntsf windows can see harddrive but mpc can't. if I format with mpc windows cant see it. I read in this forum that this hook up would work. can someone please help.

its not possible. the mpc will never recognize the pc and vice versa. the only way you can do it is by getting an audio interface. search the forum and people here rate different interfaces and yu can decide for yourself. or go to tweakheadz.com and they show different setups on home studios.

This sounds to be the issue. The MPC can not read NTFS formated Disk. Everything sounds good based on what you have posted, but the use of NTFS tells me your MPC should not be able to read the disk. Now here is another issue you might run into, and I am not sure about this but with my back ground in computers, I think I remember someplace reading that FAT (formats - this is what you should be using) can not format drive over a point in size. I am not sure but let's say you have a 100GB drive in the MPC, you might not be able to format the full drive. Again on that last part I am not sure...but I know 100% that the MPC can not read a NTSF Formated Drive or Disk (of any kind). Sure your computer can read it, you must be using NT4.0,Windows 2000 or Windows XP. THey are the only OS systems that can format using NTFS. You should be able to tell the system to format in FAT. If it wont allow you to format in just FAT try FAT32. But that sounds like your issues.

I use the following and have used the following and it has worked every time without issue

MPC200XL (OS 1.20 & 1.14)
Zip 100
Jaz 1GB
MCR with a 512 CF or Sony 64MB

I would put the disk into the pc and format it using DOS based formating (or this is also known as FAT or FAT32).
After formating using the PC I can then use that disk in my MPC without issue.

If I want to edit one of my sounds with the PC- I just take the disk and move it back to the PC and I have never found an issue with it.

On of the cool things about the 2000XL over the 2000 was the fact that it could read PC formated disk and .wav files.

But if you know you are going to be using the PC with the drive as well you should always format with the PC. THe PC can not read MPC format. Now it has been said that the PC can read disk formated uner the new OS for the MPC, but I have not tested this myself. I have always done it this way.

Also another thing to keep in mind. If you dont have a software on your computer (MPC Editor or something like that) you will not be able to play .snd files (the format that the MPC uses to store sound as a file). So you might also want to save your NEW SAMPLES to the MPC as a WAV and Not a Snd file. In my next port I will try to find the page numbers that support this issue from the 2000XL man. I hope this helps...

IT'S WORKING NOW. I used MPC EDITOR > Disk > MPC XP disk formatter to format hard drive, and it worked. Since I had a hard time finding a scsi pci card I used a RATCO scsi to firewire converter.Every thing is working fine. This is the best possible solution for file transfer with the MPC2000xl.

How did you get it. I have currently a usb to scsi coming out my MPC to the usb port in PC. When I use editor and select xp formatter, it doesn't recognize the drive to format???? Please help I have been trying for days.

before you go to mpc editor, go to disk management and format disk to FAT. This requires a few steps. if you have problems doing that refer to windows xp help. In disk management your hard drive should show up healthy.

Got IT....finally. Took me 4 weeks to figure out, with all your help I got it. I used MPC Editor. I have an 2gb internal drive hooked into the internal scsi port then I have a usb to scsiII connter from the MPC to the PC. The issue was the MPC editor would not format the drive as the pc recognized the drive as a fixed drive and the editor will only format removable drive. I was persistent and basically tricked the PC to format the drive. I put a travel drive in my usb slot and the PC and MPC Editor recognized it as removable storage. I took the first step and used the xp formatter on the editor software. Then when the editor prompts me and ask if I was sure I wanted to format the drive, I took out the travel drive and re-connected the fixed drive via usb.

Walah. The only thing that confused me was it added 2 strange files to the disk

mansell.r and credit.to.

No clue what they are. Also the drive is 2gb but when I go to the manager in xp it shows it as a partioned drive with only 29mb. Can't complain .......enough to transfer the wave files like I wanted. Thanks.

29 mb? did the same to me. I put a 2nd 9 gig hard drive in my mpc on the scsi chain and formatted it to mpc 2000xl so the pc would not recognize it. I use the 29 mbs to transfer and the 9 gig to store. It works good, though it was kinda hard to make it fit.
