I just joined! Good to see such a large MPC family!!

First let me introduce myself, my name is Steve but i go by the moniker "ITALY".. I have been an MPC user since the days of the 60, i had the 60II and currently have the 3000. I must admit i have strayed from the MPC path over the last several years, i have been using Cubase and several other pieces lately but i have come to the conclusion that i must get back to my MPC roots!!! Nothing beats bangin on the beautiful grey pads! Honestly, i have been uninspired musically lately and feel the need to renew my main love, MY MPC!!

Seriously though, i have been reading up on the 4000 and the OTHER unit i won't mention as any other future buyer would as i want to be well informed on the latest in technology. I must say, the 4000 sounds like quite the mother of all MPC's and from playing around with the two units i can say proudly that my next purchase will be the 4000.

I have a few questions.. First, should i sell my 3000?? Will the 4000 read my files from the 3000?? I have so much stuff saved on floppies and 100meg zip files as well as my Syquest EZDrive that i hate to leave them behind! I could keep my 3000 but i honestly need the money from selling it to even consider the 4000.. I just don't make the ends to go and drop 3g's on a new piece. What do you all think?? Has anyone had some experience with reading SEQ and SAMPLE files from the 3000 on the 4000???

My next question is where should i buy this beast??? What companies have you guys had good luck with??? The best price at??? The best support??
I have bought alot of gear from Sweetwater so my first choice was from here but i am open for some suggestions..

Welcome to this forum, Italy !

Somehow we have similar roots. Already much more then a decade ago I bought the Linn LM-1 and with the exception of the MPC60 and the Linn 9000 I owned all of Roger Linns drum machines. A friend of mine had the MPC60 which was the best reason for me to get the 3000 many years ago, too. Although some people here say there is no technical difference between the 2000 and the 3000 but my ears tell me there is. Anyway now I own the ultimate machine - the MPC4000 which is a class on its own.

It sounds excellent and I guess we do not need to discuss long about the quality of the sequencer. It is tight like no other system I know. Like you, I missed the inspiration when working with a computer based sequencer and therefore "graded up" to the 4000. The best decision I made within the last years and since then playing is fun and recording fast.

Importing of MPC3000 files worked fine for me with ZIP100 cartridges and you can find more informations concerning this point in another thread in this forum. Anyway before buying you should give it a serious try and maybe compare it to Rolands MV8000. To compare different hardware sequencers. To me the MPC4000 is the ultimate machine to work with.

Although I am living on the other side of the planet I can agree, Sweetwater is not the cheapest but to me they always have been very professional a n d friendly.

there's an LE model that comes with the IB4D option for $1800. i went with it, it's the lowest price i've seen. it's currently in stock, bottom of that page.

it's bare-bone 16mg but loads cheaper to upgrade yourself.

It sounds like we went down the same path Mothership... Thanks for the info on the 3000 importing stuff. I hope it's a smooth transition. I hate to sell my 3000 but it looks like i may just do that.

And yes, i am lil italy Lord Toranaga. I worked at Keyboard Exchange off and on for 7 years. It was a great gig, that's how i met Reese and NGOMA.

Hey Fpr Christ Sake I was invited to the Party? Man I been using the 60, had the 2000, 2000xl and back to the 60mkII then to the 4000 and never looking back....All the Negative press the 4k receives is Nonsense...(Uh Now Anyway!!)....It is a Solid unit with 1.51 and you'll never miss anything your old MPC did or sounded like cuz this one sounds way better and does a whole megaton more waaaayyy faster. Ive tried the MV8000 and it is not even in the same leauge as the 4000...Trust me I am unbiased when it comes to judging .......I always say what I feel.... My only wishes for the 4k now are Audition Sample form disk, Individual Track Looping like my Motif and better FX presets (you know weird Lo-Fi stuff we can just plug into a Track simply with not much tweaking (Yamaha FX got me spoiled sorry).........this MPC is a Monster compared to ALL the other units in its class....Kills the 3000 by a landslide....reads 3000 files,2000, E-Mu CD-Roms E4,EIII etc with ease and translates everything just like my ol E4xtUltra....Right now I am happy but would be pissin myself if we had those other features I had mentioned!!!

It sounds like you are doing exactly what i want to do with the 4000.
I have a ton of 3000 stuff as well as a jaz drive full of E4XT (not the ultra) samples.
I'm hoping i can read my E4XT stuff as well, it sounds like i can, huh..??

It does it all Bro and is really a good unit to have in the studio!! it loads all my E-MU CD-Roms great and the 3000 disks i had from a friend. I had the 60 now it dont load 60 sounds just Sequences but thats cool I sold my 60 two weeks after purchasing this unit so I resampled every sounds (which was only drum kits) into the 4000..... I also sold my EMU Sp1200 after buying this and dont even miss it...God I thought I'd never ever say that!!!

So let me get this straight. The 4000 WILL read my CDROMS for the E4XT but it WON'T read my jaz drive with all my folders/samples and such RIGHT????
Only the CDROM sound library, CORRECT???
