nice technique, that's similar to what i used to do.

i keep everything inside the mpc now, but i'd like to get back into dual sequencing. lot of cool stuff with cc's that are easier to write on reason rather than midi into your mpc and edit in step edit.

reason + mpc + good refills is stroooooong

Is the reason sequencer/quantize not so good?? I'm using floops Ver.6, and the quantize seems to be allright until I want to get into more complicated rhythmic patterns. Then it turns into crap. I bought a 2k classic(cheapest MP on the planet that I copped with tons of extras for $400) just to control the drums in FLStudio, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to route the specific drum cells to the individual pads. If reason can do that automatically or easy, that would be a blessing. So how is the sequencer/quantize in Reason?

i mean, you could probably get something that gets to sounding good.

however, i definitely like to do it in the mpc better because at this point, it's so quick to me. i know exactly where to nudge everything and can do it by very specific increments on the mpc, fast. it's a much less enjoyable/time effective solution to use reason to get a good groove going.

i do like to use reason's sequencer for keys, because 1, they are easier to program rhythmically than drums and thus easier to program in reason and 2, easier to visualize than in the mpc's grid edit or step edit (until december, see my sig).

jb: are you using the mpc to control the fpc? i use fl studio 6 too. let me know what youre trying to do and i might have the scoop.

man i think the most difficult thing would be to get fruity connected with external devices. does fruity have different midi channels ?
In my opinion its a program for mouse drawing musicians, without any gear.
So if you wanna connect both worlds ( Harware + Software ) you are totally right with doing MPC & Reason. I got the MPC 2000 Classic too for 300 $ and i am completetely satisfied.

Peace

where did you get it for 300 dollar? online?
By phlexter Sun Nov 26, 2006 6:16 pm
Ebay germany
baught it, payment with illox.com as third party, after the seller gets my money i got time to check the mashine within 48 hours. Found some mistakes and told him he I would only buy it for around 300 € ( 350 $ ) otherwise send it back to him. he needed the money. got it with 32 MB + 2 x Iomega Zip 100 and 10 Zip Disks. But i dont need the zip drives when i install a floppy drive in my pc, to get the OS on a floppy. Then i am gonna sell the drives and 10 disks.

I apply the same principle with FL Studio!

The main thing that gives any Mpc is the timing between the internal sequencer and the internal sample engine.

Midi suffers from Lag because it's serial in nature. ie all the information comes in or goes out one bit after another. If you have a kick and a hat on the same beat, for example, one of the sounds will be slightly after the first one. We're only talking milliseconds here but the ear is very sensitive to timing and can easily detect the diference.

On the Mpc ,using the internal sampler, the two sounds will be practically instantaneous. The most misunderstood thing about the timing of the Mpc is the timing or feel.

The Mpc gets its feel rom the fact that the timing is really tight. It's internal clock is very stable and the pad to sample action is very quick. Once you transmit the Midi information the timing is mostly lost because its now a serial Midi stream.

If you can leave all the drums on the MPC and use reason for the rest.

ope i disagree on that. Have you ever tried to midi external devices ?
My drums Bang like never before and the groove is totally MPC like. Even the Instruments are perferctly quantized. Totally nonrobotic feel.
Perhaps there is a much better feel if you are using the internal sampler but i cant imagine that. Even in that case the MPC uses midi - notes to trigger its own sampler. So there is no difference.

Peace

That's kind of what I figured that FPC thingy was. You have to understand that i left FLstudio at version 4.5 and then came back version 6, so they added alot of new stuff I know little about like that automatic timestretch and what not that I'm trying to learn now. I tried using that FPC but was confused as hell. I'll try and check out their online tutorials on it when I can get my laptop to a hotspot. And with my MP I also got it maxed on ram, 2 zip drives, external hard drive, and a bunch of disks all in near mint condition.

the easiest way to control fpc is this:

on the right hand side of the plugin is the notes that are assigened to the pad. on the left is the pad.

click and drag the note "letter" down until you see "lrn". which is the learn function.

hit the pad on the mpc.

its as simple as that. you can do that for all of the pads in both banks in fpc.

also this is assuming that you have a midi connection between the mp and fl. sorry if this is redundant.

By jbplaya Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:22 pm
No, it's not redundant, just a little confusing. What is this actually supposed to do? I tried it and when I go to click on the pad the sample assigned to the pad plays and the note number gets reassigned to C. Am I missing something here?

Phlexter, after reading your technique, I know that I want experiment with your MPC w Reason technique. I just recentlly bought the AKAI MPC 2000 and I'm having trouble using my AKAI w the Reason 3.0. I also have a midi keyboard. It's not a professional keyboard, but it has midi in/out on back. Can you clear up the connections instructions. You said that you stuck your midi keyboard to your mpc. Exactly, what did you connect what to ? Did you connect the midi out of the mid keyboard to midi 1a of mpc?
You said that you connected mpc into your midi sound card. Did you connect the midi out of your mpc into midi in of sound card? I don't have midi sound card and the only interface that I have is the midi to usb interface. Will need a special midi inteface?
