** ASR-X?? MPC2000XL? MPC1000BK?? Help Please!**

Hey there guys,

I signed up here a while ago, with plans to buy an MPC 1000. Since then, I have gone to Europe for a month and a half, and also to cuba for a week, so pretty much all my MPC fund has gone to travelling.

Its kind of sh itty, but at the same time has givin me more time to decide what I really want out of my music.

So i have narrowed down my choices to:

1) A New Black Akai MPC 1000

or..

2) A Used MPC 2000XL (not MCD)

or..

3) A Used ASR-X Pro


The delemma I have, is that I want to computer compatibility that the 1000 has, along with the classic warm feeling that the 2000 has and the MPC 3000-like groove that the ASR will bring.

As experienced Akai users and producers, what do you guys suggest?

My price range is max 1500 CAD. (i know, im broke)

maybe start out with the 1k and then save up for a piece of older hardware? might as well start with the newer piece of equipment.. then build up your older warmer doper pieces of hardware.

JJs 1k OS is so **** siick, too.

You can find a good deal on a used MCD, I got a nice blue one for $600.

The 1k is nice too tho make sure you try the pads on both!

ASR is also a good choice. If you want effects. Balance portability, (1k wins) features (ASR wins) and reliability (2kxl).

buy the 1000(bk) and an s950. use them together.

i got rid of my mpc1000 for a 2000xl

i love the build of the XL and loved the OS of the 1000 the 2500 will be the best mpc for me but untile then its all 2000xl

It appears you have read a lot of myths and a myth is part truth, part fiction.

The 2000 has no classic warmth as far as I am aware and I am sure any MPC can "groove" just as good as the 3000.

The best way to choose an MPC is learn about its work flow. None will give you any "magic". It is the person behind the MPC that makes it.

My advice would be to get a cheap 2000xl with a card reader. I wouldn't get a 1000 because of the pads.

1000 is better.
