MIDI its frustrating isnt it....

I hooked my midi out from my piano into my midi in on the 2000 then my mdi outs to my pianos in....now what do i need next..i heard midi doesnt send audio signals so what do i do now..my problem is i dont kno what to make slav or master..i just want my mpc to read my piano's notes...when i play it...any help..holla back

if i understand right, which might not be the case since it is still early in the morning here, then you want to play on your piano or keyboard and have it record the midi signals on the mpc. so when you push play on the mpc then you can hear what you played? right?
i have similar setup and have the mpc as the master and have my keyboard as the slave.
you also need to know which midi channel the keyboard is set on so as to set the mpc on the right midi track, otherwise it will not work.
to get that information, it is usually in the setup or global parameters on your keyboard.
so if your keyboard is set to midi channel 5, and you have the midi cords going into midi a on the mpc you would have the track on the mpc set to midi a -channel 5. and bam it works.

Go into General Midi Settings for the board, I am sure you can set it there. Revist the manual player.

yeah regardless of how old it is, you will be able to find out the midi settings on it. i guess the manual is your best bet. good luck.

Or you could just use trial and error, there are only 16 channels per input/output anyway.

midi doesnt transfer audio so what do i do

look here dog...you got your set up correct...if you've got an XL ( I dont' know about the 2000 regular)...

on the main screen arrow down to where the track is...if you look you'll see under the track where it says "Drum_1", put the cursor on that, and turn it counterclockwise til it says "midi"...next to "midi" it'll say "off" put the cursor there, and turn it clockwise to "Device 1A"...

that "1A"corresponds to the 1st timber of whatever you have hooked up to you midi out A plug(turn to 1B is plugged to the "B" output"...


Timbers are the instrument paths...w/o going into how a keyboard puts out sound, just think of it as the separate instruments within the box that can play at one time...I think it's 16 generally if the device is multi-timbral...
