File recovery!

Made a beat the other day.. spent about 2 hours just on the bass line and I woke up wanting to check it out. (you know how it is when you make a new beat that your really feelin'!) With sleep still in my eyes, I thought I was loading up the beat, and accidently erased to Sequence. (my fingers work fast on the MP's.. need to slow down)..Anyways, the last few days it dawned on me that since the 2500 can be hooked up to the computer, to use some file recovery program to bring it back. You may want to keep this program handy! Some of the other programs only regognize certain files/programs that have extensions that common.. exe, mp3, etc.. there are many many others, but not too many programmers use .SEQ files that the MPC's use.. know what I mean. The last program I tried was scanning my HD for over 8 hours and found nothing!
Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know about that. It worked for me!

It's free to try. I had to buy it in order to save the file. The other programs didn't find anything that I needed. There were actiually some .txt files that I have no idea how they got on the drive in the first place. It was about $60.00 for the program, but I figured it's a really cheap price to pay especially if it happends at a time when you need a particular beat the most. It's almost like paying insurance, but it's a one time fee!

So your sayin you deleted a file on the MPC harddrive and ran this program on a host PC and using USB you found the deleted file? I wonder if this would work for Corrupt Files or on Wrong Files Errors? Anyone?

Exactly! Not sure about corrupt files, but it does mention that it will find them, butyou may need some other program to fix them. Chances are if you have a corrupt file, and it's been deleted.. damn.. only Jesus can save that!

the reason behind this is;

when you copy something to you hard disk it gets copied to last bit of the disk. always.

if you delete something, you dont actually delete it. the disk has a header with info regarding the actual data on the disk (your files). when you delete something the header gets updated but the data stays where it is until it is overwritten, by a couple fo things like;
defrag
system sometimes shuffles data
if you do massive data transfers

this is why you should defrag your disk.

so, if you delete something from your disk it will nearly always be recoverable as long as you dont defrag you disk.

A file recovery option would be a nice feature to put in to the MPC... or at least an undo erase.
