Hardly a superfluous function.
This way you save unnecessary D/A A/D conversion, plus you can go and have somthing to eat, or take a shit, while it is rendering instead of sitting there plugging cables in and tracking it out in real time.

that's assuming it wouldn't have to render in realtime, which is a distinct possibility. if it did have to render in realtime, it wouldn't be much more convenient - a little, if you could automate it to go track by track, because you wouldn't have to be at your daw the whole time.

also, if it created a wav by an automated resampling process, the resulting wav may not sound as good as if it had been tracked through spdif or from d/a outs - some have commented that resampled audio in the 1k doesn't sound as good. i haven't had any experience with it myself though.

this sounds great guys! but also if u guys put to much in this thing you will lose fuctionality of basic things.. the other day i made a song and tried to resample it and the sequencer goes haywire everytime i go to record mode and press play on the sequencer, also the sequencer wont stop playing for like 30 seconds after i press stop. i truly believe theres just to much going on inside and its getting really confused.

all that happened? that sounds weird, never happened to me...

if we were reaching maximum limit of this os, i think the jj wouldn't necessarily be coding more stuff into it. they understand that functionality > more functions.

i'm curious to know why all that happened to you though kja

well basically all i had was realtime q-link movements and a little mixer automation in the beat.. but i think the problem came from this coupled with the direct record tracks. :x
basically after you record on this and decide you dont like it, it changes to take 2 instead of take 1 even if u hit undo to erase it so i kept doing this untell i got two vocal tracks i liked (and maybe 3 or 4 takes on each) on the first two direct record tracks.
now i mght have forgot to hit undo a couple times but always hit record instaed of overdub. also i noticed that you need to actually start the sequence AFTER you start recording in the direct record tracks or you wont beable to hear the beat,i.e. the other tracks.
so then the whole shebang plays perfect in the main page but in the record page you know wat happens. :?

Great idea with the dump! No tracking anymore!

1. 'Render' selected tracks [x] to wav' in song mode.
2. Save as... [New Folder] on memorycard/hd.
3. Processing... [xx% Done]
4. USB/Memorycard to DAW

offline rendering. a feature that lets us tell the mpc what to render and with what criteria, just like seq edit but for audio. this way we could tell the mpc to render 2 bars of track 1 or 16 bars of sequence 2.. or even render sample 1 with reverb to pad a1. all of this without having to manually set the start/end points is the key. i think this would bring the frontier of daw style audio editing to the mpc1000. features like trim with a grid interface background with options such as 'merge audio' & 'insert' audio would really make a difference in audio editing. you could deal with audio in the same way you do in cubase.

i must say, sounds unlikely, but id love it if jj added it. id love to hear what he says on the subject...

i would even give that guy another 30 bucks, if he would do this stuff....

it'd really speed up the tracking process, that's for damn sure...

if this is gonna happen ( which would be a really good idea because you could use your inputs on your soundcard for other equipment ) don't forget to implement midi tracks into it!!

what do you mean?

well if you are rendering all your tracks it would also be nice to render your midi tracks at the same time. so it will record lets say your synth and also put that into waveform.

that would incorporate the inputs and it would have to be in realtime - it'd just be an automated method of resampling since the mpc houses only midi, not the device that the midi is talking to.

i know that was my idea
