MPC 2500 DVD Tutorial

I wanna add after pondering a bit, if you do wanna put in information that can be found, or is just lightly touched on, in the manual:

Section about using the LFO (but more indepth than what the manual offers), Effects (explaining what the effects do and how to tweak and combine them), and explanation on the presets when processing and manipulating samples.

I'm just finishing up reading the manual and noticed that there are some areas which I wish were elaborated on more thoroughly.

Seeing as how you used us for your research and stuff, do we get free /advanced copies of this DVD or is it a free magazine give away jobbie?

u should put in how to use midi with it and what all those outputs meen ..
and how to use say a korg or roland with midi to the mp

Between doing this, writing an article for Sos and all the rest of the tutorials....I'm getting a touch snowed under.

Article will be complete in a week but will probably not appear in Sos till the new year.

DVD is coming along nicely and the main problem is not of content but getting the imagery and audio right.

I decided to spend very little time with 'how to hook it up', 'midi cables' etc..and instead concentrate on using it in tandem with vinyl and digital sampling, live use, triggering events, creative uses (Q links, multi pad dynamics etc.), advanced groove quantises and template creations, advanced uses for grid edit, sound design with grid edit, correct sample tuning, looping and assigns, velocity triggering of multi events of single samples using pads, clocking/syncing, tips on how to correct bad samples, pattern and step edit, advanced midi (using MPC with triggering Reason etc.), assigning modulation and cc events, efx, dynamics, beat production using only the 2500, resampling with efx/dynamics, direct recording, recording mutes, using the mixer, level dynamics, playing dynamics, creating GM templates for use with smf files, correct archiving and searching of samples, and a few surprises I want to keep for the DVD.

I am also thinking of maybe, and this is only a maybe, of making the DVD more interactive, but that would be dependent on time and the right coder.

I also decided to have a joke section in there just for you Toh. Na, just dikin here.

I think standard 'how to use the 2500' DVDs are ok for beginners but there are no resources for advanced users, and the 2500 is an advanced tool well beyond sample and trigger. So, I want to cover the more creative and technical side of this baby.

Price is dependent on what market predicts once content is finished and presentation is decided on.

I best sort this out before I get deep into the dvd:

How many of you are using the JJ os?

I need to really think about this as the dvd is for official Akai released os and many will still be using the original os.

If I tutor on the JJ os, then many will miss out. But the JJ os provides functionality that the standard os doesn't.

So, if you could all drop your handles here with which os you use then that would help me decide WTF to do.

I'm on the official Akai OS v 1.22. Personally, I'm waiting for the official release of the JJ OS for the 2500 before I make any big changes.

You never know, if you make the dvd right now with the way the JJ OS is at present, they might make even more changes to the OS when the official release comes out.

Of course if the official release of the JJ OS is that much better than the official Akai OS then you will see alot of people switch over, and I would eseentially want the dvd to cover what I will be using down the road.

Perhaps make another dvd for the JJ OS when it is officially released. Or have an extras section teaching some things on JJ OS specific functions that are not available on Akai's. It also might not be such a bad idea to wait out the release of the dvd and make a double dvd set (1 dvd for Akai's OS and 1 dvd for JJ's OS).

Yep, that sounds like a plan.

Only problem is the speed at which third party os's progress.

Could be an appendum at the end of the DVD as you smartly suggested.
