yeh used to be good tho -people like cats protection league and oxfam killed the diggin scene by charging like 25 quid for a star trek soundtrack. im always getting kicked out of charity shops for complaining about the prices. they think they can milk us diggers by getting some geek with a copy of record collector to come in and price theyr sh!t
Well it sounds like you guys aint from London, or your just to dam picky! You guys should try getting friendly with the owner/s I can go in 5 of my local charity shops with a tena and come out with like 20 good records. Lately Ive seen the price of records in go down in like few records shops, looks like hardly any one buying shit anymore! I dont know if thats a good or a bad thing for us digger! but there all ways ebay peeps sell there rock soul etc collections. Ever try putting a add in your local new papper?
hmm were do u live in devon there 2 great spots in barnstaple and one in bideford im always findin shi for like £1 and the got a basment just full of records for like 50p
yeh but i been diggin in the same town for 10 years and i bought all the good stuff. all thats left now is klaus wunderlich records and those weird top of the pops compliations from the 70's with cover versions. unless you wanna pay a tenner for a record for some band you never heard of just cos it says they used moog, oberheim, linn etc.
Mate, I completely agree about Charity shops but you've just got to find your spots. I've got a market in H******* where the guys give me records for free or next to nothing. They make their money selling teevees and stuff, the vinyl they don't care about. They'd rather shift a wad of it and get a quid than take it home with them.
Thats where the Charity shops are going wrong. If they reduced the prices significantly they'd shift a lot more.
dam all I can say is come to London cos i know a whole bunch of place where u can get good records for good prices, i dont pay no big money but got some nice records trust they closed down a bunch of reckless records shops but there is still nuff other place to get good shit.
on reflection i think i'm just a bitter old digger -I get good stuff cheap 10/25/50p -but its few and far between. i just guess all the old folks dying dont have any funky sh!t to leave to the chazza's!!
i picked up some good early 80's stuff recently -whispers, midnight star, d-train, that kind of stuff, but i cant handle forking out 2 quid for pan pipe moods just cos it might have a fresh hook on it -that sh!t shud be 10p
my mate got 54 klaus wunderlich albums for 8 quid tho, you gotta hear his cover of superstition -its wild
LOL!
Fair does to them, they are a charity after all, it's in their interests to rip you off.
I generaly stick to carboot sales. 95% is of it is sh*t but now and again I'll get lucky...usualy from landlords who's tenants have done a runner and have left their stuff behind.
