hello,
i recently purchased a 2500 and loving it.
i would like to take a sample and make it 16 levels, change the pitch for each pad.....but keep the duration!

is this possible on the mpc? everytime i change to 16 levels (tune) the pitch changes but the sample length is changed!!!!

thanks!

yeah, i got that....but there is no easy way to just sample in a hit and make it 16 levels?

sorry for being stupid, lol

Now I don't know what you're asking either.
You can sample said hit, press 16 levels. That's it.

Or I guess, sample hit, trim, highlight sample change to note on, turn on loop, you have digital wave synth.

Did you try autochromatic?

If you trim and highlight loop sections you might not have to worry about length. Some may not like the sound, but that;s your opinion.

What kind of hit are we talking about, woodz?

like say i sample a piano chord....a short hit. i want to take this sample and make it 16 levels of tune KEEPING THE LENGTH. so i can make a melody with a one-shot sample, you know?

You may want to purchase the MPC 4000 and hire Scott Storch for 7 minutes to play for you. That's about the only way you'll get it.

try setting the decay to 'start', and lengthen the decay to desired length. then, when pitched 16 levels, every hit should have same length.

What you are asking for is real-time timestretching, which even the MPC4000 cannot do. Try a Roland V-Synth ;)

I haven't even done this myself tho but I remember seeing it somewhere one time possibly on YouTube about his. I think what you mean is that you want to shift the sample in semitones across your pads but you don't want to do 16 tuning levels because that just stretches or compresses the sample while adjusting the pitch. You want to be able to adjust the sample in semitones but without having to stretch or compress the sample. Like having sample pitch shifted across the pads. If I'm not understanding you correctly or I don't make any sense then let me know.

I think you want to turn the sample into a patched phrase first. I haven't messed with patched phrase that much yet since getting my MPC, but I believe it basically turns your sample into the equivalent of what a sound patch would be in synthesizers. After youv'e converted your sample into a patched phrase try the 16 levels on tuning or auto-chromatic setting. I'm just trying to recall what I saw one time a couple months ago about this but I can't really remember too well.

Edit: My bust; yeah what Coles Brandon said. Btw I recommend the SFS dvd if you are fairly new to the MPC 2500 or have just never touched any MPC before. It shows all the basic essentials when working with the 2500. The eBook that is advertised on this site is incredible as well, it will show you alot of necessary skills in sequencing and sound design with the MPC: it's really opening my eyes to the possibilities with the machine.

there is a way to do what your asking but it would be very time consuming and you wouldn't actually use the 16 levels function..
you could just keep pitch shifting your original sample 1 up or down 16 times pitching it down another notch each time without overwriting and make a program with your 16 samples you've made ... would be a bit of a hassle tho

Hello all,

What is the obvious use of this 16 level thing? I mean how do you guys use this feature in your creative procedure?

Cheers

I get what your sayin though. I have the JJ operating system on mine and I attempted to use the patch phrase. What happens is you have one single hit that you want to use and its not possible to do unless you first chop. Kinda sucks, but I guess that's how it is.
