Question as to the Possibilities of MIDI

I have read a fews books on midi but like mama sed me being a knuckledhead i'm jus not gettin it.. I mean i know what it is and i know its not actual music but commands and all that..

my question is this... keep in mind this is with "my" understandin of midi as it is..and how it works..

but i was thinkin how iLL it would be in using a mpc 1k and a alesis micron together wit midi...

say i have a sample and i chopped it up,,is it possible to "map" it out across the keyboard and as you play it via the keyboard the samples would go up and down in pitch/tone in association wit the scale on the keyboard....

is that possible with midi or that already a tried and true thing and people been doing that for a mad minute now...


if i am completely off base school me on the concept of midi wit jus a mpc 1k and alesis micron oh and throw in a macbook pro wit ableton live on it.. and nothing else..

how and to what effect coudl that combo be used..

i went through the same thing, i read about it, asked tons of questions on a different forum about it and it just didnt make sense. until i actually got into it. i still dont know how to program a complete controller like a bcf 2000, but i am getting there. i suggest just get into it. start hooking up midi cables and figure out how the ins and outs work with hardware and software. then start trying to control one thing with another. i bought a korg electribe es 1 or something a long time ago. that was my first step into music. i didnt know anything about the midi options on it, but now i can control the drum section with the mpc and the keys with my midi keyboard, if it had enough ins and outs . just do it. get the stuff and start hooking it up. its actually pretty easy, at least to the level that im at. but i couldnt see it in the books and answers that people were giving me. i had to get my hands on it. i hope this helps. good luck1[/quote]
