better converters! =P

but in all reality... i think the machine is pretty solid, other than a few niggling improvments like those mentioned by M02, the 1000 does what it needs to do.

do you dislike the converters? i am pretty neutral on them , and i feel they're neutral as well

not likely.

what about a touch screen?

Ant: The converters arnt horrible (like say a tascam US-122 or similar interface's) but they leave a little something to be desired when sampling grinding analog synth lines or notes and to a lesser extent some drums. They seem to do a bit to much of their own leveling (likely from the anti-aliasing filter), making them miss some (albeit a small amount) of a sound's nuance.
I'm not really complaining, I dont expect thousand dollar+ converters on a portable/project studio type unit, just thought i'd put it out there with the touch screen and such.

yeah. i dig that. i only sample records analog, if i'm sampling synth or anything else it's all digital.

wait, maybe i'm crazy, but isn't there already envelopes? that's one thign i've never gotten into really so i'm not for sure.

Yeah. It has envelopes for amp and filter. But they're just 2-stage envelopes (attack & decay only). No sustain and release. And there's no envelope for pitch. I'd like to have an added 4-stage (ASDR) envelope for pitch and a full 4-stage envelope for amp and filter.

heh. like this?

Precisely!!!!! I read in the manual that it's supposed to be implemented in an upcoming version. I've been looking all over for that screen in my MPC after upgrading to 4.15 but could never find it. I guess I won't see it until 4.20 so I'll definitely be looking forward to that one. I really like the grid editing for the drums though. This MPC1k is getting closer and closer to my 4k in terms of sequencing with each new OS update!!!!

Yeah as far as sequencing it is fast approaching the 4k, except for resolution, (I forgot what a difference this makes until I went back to portland for thanksgiving and could use my 4k again). You can improve the resolution a little bit by doubling the tempo/bars of whatever you plan to make (2 bars at 80bpm = 4 bars at 160bpm), effectively bringing the PPQ from 96 to 192, still not the 960ppq of the 4k, but thats the best you can do on this machine.

ADSR envelopes would be killer, but as much as I'd like to see them, I doubt that its feasible. =\
A pitch envelope would be quite welcome, currently im using the LFO for this purpose, which is fiddly at best.

I'd like a few more functions in the trim process page... especially a way to merge or cut and paste samples into each other, basically more of the functions you'd expect in a basic wave editor. Again... probably not going to happen, but it would make creating new sounds less of a chore.

*Cosign.* Same with me.

Why don't you think it's feasible? Is it because it's a drum sampler and not a full blown instrument sampler? I don't really see how adding 2 extra stages to the envelopes could be difficult depending on how the program was coded. Now if adding the 2 stages to the envelopes would create too much strain on the CPU and cause sluggish performance then I can see it as not being feasible. However, I don't think adding the 2 stages would created that much of an addition strain. I could very well be wrong though.

I think id like to see a way to throw a second sequence in at any time while the sequencer was going, and end up in the same place in the measure instantly... like an 808 or an SR-16 did with fill patterns.

Q control of effects levels is a must imo, but even better if it controlled effects parameters. will they eventually send (and record) CC messages and such? that would be cool too.

it would also be nice to play 2 sequences at a time.

I doubt the CPU could handle it, the 2500 doesnt have full ADSR envelopes (it doesnt right?), being the same hardware (JJ is releasing a OS for it, so it must use the same chip). If the flagship for this line of hardware (the 2500 and 1000) doesnt have it, then i doubt the possibilities of its implementation, being that it is pretty much the standard for all synths, they would have implemented it if they could. But then again... I could be very very wrong =)

forgive any typos i just got home from the lab/work and i'm wrecked.

i tend to agree with you, but honestly, i look at the stuff we're doing now (full track qlink filter automation) and i probably would have told you that it couldn't be done on the mpc1000 back in the day of 1.07 because "if we could, akai would have put it in the os."

we have no idea whether the akai code took full advantage of the hardware specs, and that includes CPU! that's the funniest part!

Ok. So if full ASDR envelopes aren't possible, then maybe they can modify the decay or the decay modulation so I can have more control over the decay for my 808 kick drum. I have a really long 808 kick drum sample that will drop for maybe 5 or 6 seconds. When I assign this sample to a pad as a one shot (which is the way I like to do kicks) and set the decay modulation to start, then the decay is not long enough for me at it's maximum setting of 100. If I set the decay modulation to end, then the decay is too long and I can't shorten it enough. If an additional decay modulation selection was added to allow me to shorten it or lengthen it perfectly the way I want then that would satisfy me just as much as full ASDR envelopes.

My idea is to get the longest 808 kick drum sample and use my envelopes to manipulate it and adjust the attacks and decays the way I want them. Since these envelopes are limited in their current state, then I may have to work around these limitations by shortening the length of the sample until I get satisfactory results. As a matter or fact, I might just do that and call it a day since the thought came to mind. I'd still like to see a modification in the decay modulation in the future though--that along with a pitch env.

what I would like is in the chop screen......have the ability to preview chops by pressing on the pads rather than using the scroll wheel.....that would be fresssssshh!!
You would be able to work out and play with how your chops before they are chopped...uknowwatImsayin???- ced80

Batch sample load would be cool too.- grinchmob

u should be able to save all tracks as seperate wav files onto ur mpc and then go thru the USB view mode and just swap em off onto ur comptuer- waxmastawes

when assigning samples to a pad from the RAM.. i dont like how i gotta turn the data wheel sooo much when i have lots of samples... i would like to turn it backwards and get to the end that way yeaaa that would be smooth. - Rise

and a TRACK MIXER .. i want to record Track Volume Automation or even DIRECT TRACK OUTPUT so that anything thru a certain track goes to the 1,2,3,4 outs -Rise

now if these few features would be added i could sit in here and be happy till i die.
