Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

jj os suck realy bad. I have never had any save problems with akai os 1.22. Akai os feels like a mpc should feel, not like a hacked os. Maybe in a future when jj os is finished it will be better than akai os.

Just for the record, there's no way JJ's OS can 'screw' your MPC. It's just software, it doesn't have the ability to set your unit on fire, or throw it down the stairs.

The bottom line is, it'll either work for you or it won't, just like the Akai OS.

As everyone else is chipping in their personal experiences, I'll chip in mine: I had tons of problems with the Akai OS with missing files and corrupt projects. Also, the broken MTC was big problem in my particular workflow. JJ's OS fixed both of these and so I'm sticking with it, for now. I haven't experienced the problems with JJ's OS that some others have, so my overall impression is that it's more stable than the Akai OS.

Remember the above is only my experience. There is no RIGHT or WRONG OS. There is only what works best for you.

I haven't experienced the problems with Akai's OS that some others have, so my overall impression is why mess with a beta JJ OS that removes MPC 2500 specific functions and has reports that it crashes your MPC?

The above is only my experience. Akai OS 1.22 is the RIGHT OS. The JJ OS is an alternative which currently has no support (not even here in these forums). Its obvious that the one that works for you is the best. So give the Akai OS a try. If you experience problems like the others in this thread, install the JJ OS. If your experince with the the JJ OS is not cracked up to what you were lead to believe, than just revert back to the Akai OS.

I have to add that I am no software expert. But I am not fully confident that a bad OS won't screw up your MPC (like corrupt the boot sector so the MPC won't load any OS :?: ). I don't know...just throwing that out there. I do have to admit that the other guys in this thread that use the JJ OS have much more experience than me. So you will have to use your own best judgement. If you MPC is still under warranty, I would check with Akai before loading a 3rd party OS....

Quite frankly, if it turns out that Akai is actually behind this third party OS, this would be a silly azz debate. Oh wait....it already is a silly debate  How many pages is this thread now :P

Ha ha ha ha...it looks like Tutor just created a MPC 1000/2500 JJ OS forum...Ha ha ha.....This thread is in the wrong place

I tried both out.. I really liked the Akai OS, but decided to try out the JJ OS. I like em both. I can use either one, and neither screwed up my MPC.. no crashes.. nothing. If the full jj OS add's the cd functions, and direct recording it will be real nice. Neither OS allows me to audition my pads directly after sampling, so you have to save the sample without assigning it unless you KNOW that a pad is empty.. so that sucks on both OS's. JJ's OS add's some really nice features, but I think both need to utilize the q-links more.. some areas would be much faster and easier (threshold, sample time, slicing samples.. there's a lot more areas that can benefit.... I just hope they don't do the usual akai thing and be like, "that's good enough" and stop!

Do you mean like the MPC 60, MPC 2000, MPC 2000XL, or MPC 3000? Products that have set the standard for drum machine/sequencers/samplers and used in music production for over 20 years?

Well, when my MPC gets to the point where it is good enough like MPCs of the past, I would be 100% satisfied.

It's there now. I don't have a problem doing what I need to do on the mpc2500 the way it is, but some things need to get stepped up, but I'm sure both akai and jj know about it.

The MPC 2500 is ok now....but it will be good once all the software features of the XL and/or MPC 3000 are included.

no doubt. A couple more OS upgrades and it should be all good. If they REALLY take their time (which it seems like their doing) they may get everything with the next release.

possible, and i sure hope so!
but do you think the time since the last update was spent on updating the mpc2500 or rolling out new products? we'll see when we finally get an update.

The time was spent creating a new Post Production MPC with SMPTE and MTC....didn't you get the memo? Oh, I forgot...you only own a 1000.

I dont use JJs OS coz i dont want to mess up with a third party OS. I also think that now the 1.22 is nearly a good one but it still needs a few important fixing!
1
After one year Ive still experienced the corruption of files! I do save in a correct way but EVERYTIME i used the USB with my MAC (i had not the same prob with a PC tho) it starts this shit again. Now I use to move things more safely using a 2gb CF but ive **** most of my Backups during this last year. This SAVE/USB whatever bug, someone said is about temp hidden files around, has to be fixed or someone should technically! say to us how to avoid it. Im not a softw technician.
Also I didnt spend all those money to be a TESTER for em.
2
Im not confident with the MTC bug but if it exists its another major fixing

There are also a few features that id def like to have on the next Akai OSs
1-STEREO TO MONO conversion!!!!
2-NORMALIZE with level option
3-STEREO CHOP
4-MISC feat (Cont S Tr-Mute Stop 1-shot) working wo affecting the MIDI
(long time Ive heard about it im probably alone on this one)

uhm...i know im forgettin something, ill edit later on when it comes to my mind, btw at the moment i wont install the JJ OS.

MTC works with JJ, but:

JJ OS MTC song mode bug:
to all who have JJ's installed, create a seq, and then create a song with that seq and try to sync it to mtc (DAW as master) with JJ's OS. the song mode won't sync properly while the seq mode syncs exactly like it should. (25fps)
