I worked it out on my way to work this morning, its quite simple:
the US is better for digging because:
Americans, generally, had better taste in music in the 50's/60's/70's and 80's, so...
more records made
more records bought
more records appear in charity/thrift shops
P.S I support my local charity shops like no-one else I know,
