MPC1000 RAM and CF card Recommendations

with the 128MB Akai RAM upgrade, you get 24mins28secs mono recording time. the akai RAM upgrade has all the chips on one side of the PCB. if you buy another make, that will have chips on both sides of the PCB. therefore, to get 128MB in the MPC (which only reads one side of the RAM stick), you have to buy a 256MB RAM stick. hope this clears things up for you.

I've tried about 3-4 non Akai brand RAM...no luck, all failed memory check. Being fed up with the memory check errors, I finally bought the Akai EXM128 RAM yesterday...and with also no luck.

I get the memory failed (pass 1) error at about the 50% point everytime.

I also inspected the contact pins on the RAM insert module - no bent pins, no bad looking solder joints, etc.

try reinstalling the OS, which OS are you running? try both the jj OS and akai's one too. see if that helps. if not, it looks like you may have a hardware problem with your mpc.

No luck with the old OS. I noticed that both the JJ OS and the Akai OS have the same BootBlock v1.03.

Tried searching for an updated version of BootBlock, no luck.

did you buy your mpc brand new, and recently? if so, you should be able to get it replaced.

Brand new...3 weeks ago. Good thing I bought the extended warranty program from guitar center.

that's hard luck man. you shouldn't have any problems in getting it replaced in that case.

okay thanks to evryone whos posted on this page. i've decided to purchase the 'Kingston ValueRAM 256MB 144-Pin SO-DIMM PC 133'.

do you need the hmd10 to connect the RAM? or is that just relevent for connecting a hard drive?

that's only for the hard drive. the RAM slot is located under the little metal cover on the bottom of the mpc, held in with one small screw.

Whatever you do, don't buy your RAM with user "Sampler Source" at EBay. That crook is claiming to sell the original EXM128, but it's actually a generic SODIMM module that I could have bought for much cheaper elsewhere. When I gave him negative feedback, he gave me a retalatory negative feedback, so he is not repentant at all. Avoid!

I just bought the below memory for my new black 1000.... screen comes up blank.. am I missing somthing here? or was it bad memory (ugh)

Well, this is odd. Some of you recommended that memory... but I traded it with the memory in my dads old laptop after it failed... and now they are both working fine. Id be careful buying that memory if you have the new black one.
