Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hello,

I didnt have a change to check one out so .. ive got two questions about the MPC500

How is the soundquality ?
I didnt think about this untill i read some one saying that maybe because the 500 is so cheap, the sound quality is probably not that good .

Other question is about the timing .
I use to own a 1K after my 2k and sold it, because the timing was so bad .
Recently ive read that the timing problem was because of the lfo's in the os that where hidden and causing the timing problems, and that it was solved with OS2 .
How is the timing of the 500 ? cause i can imagine that there is also some stuff hidden for future OS updates .

Thnx !

i'm not experienced with the 2000 or 3000 but i saw articles up here somewhere that said the 500 has the old school pads and timing of those.

i owned a 2000, 1000, and a 500( for a little while) and never noticed any timing difference whatsoever and as far as the sound goes the 2000 was the dirtiest and the 1000 and 500 are a little more clean sounding but its all about what u put into it

the sound quality of the 500 is decent 16-bit 44100hz.
the output volume is a bit lower the the previous models.
and the editing(trim) section reminds me a bit of the s950.

But if your looking for a great sampler with the portability and to a lower price don't hesitate
to buy one

On the dutch synthforum and i think also on this forum .
The thing i've read was that the output of an hidden lfo polluted the clocksignal . It was solved with OS 2.x

Yeah .. i miss an MPC in my setup .
I almost bought the 2500 a few days ago, but i dont think i need all the functions on it .
Its the simplicity of the 500 that Appeals to me .

What i could see about the editing/trim of the 500 was that it reminds about my SP12 ..well my ex SP12 ... and maybe my (ex) Electribe ESX 1 :) beatboxjunkie ..

hmm

i use a 1000 and half of the 1000

the sound is very similar between the two as well as the 2500...

the timing is pretty solid, i havent really used lfo's with the 500, so im not too sure what the problem is..

one thing i notice is that i need to bang the pad pretty hard compared to the 1000 in order to reach full velocity which throws off my timing just a bit... gotta get adapted to the pads, all in time

as far as softness goes, i bugged out when the volume was extremely low, when i first plugged it in, but remembered that it has the master volume setting, it was at like -24 or -12, but once i set it to zero, everything was perfectly loud..

what were the audio specs of the mpc3000 and 2000?

btw you can adjust pad sensitivity

the timing is exact the same as the other models.

But it also depends on your editing, if you make shore to trim all your drum hits/samples tight enough
you will have that tightness or swing if you prefer.

the resolution is the same as the other models.
1/8 - 1/8(3) - 1/16 - 1/16(3) - 1/32 - 1/32(3) or quantisation off

there is also a step editing mode . if you want that computer stile of tightness to your programming...

the timing is weak if you dont chop your samples right..

i chopped a break in the 500 and when i sequenced it, it sounded really off no matter which timing i set it to

but

i loaded a kick snare and hi hat and voilla it sequenced really nicely..

the most important part about sequnecing on this thing is to chop the notes perfectly or as perfect as you can cause if your choppin is off, your sequencing is going to be wayyyyy offffffffffff

maybe that's the secret to the mpc60's notorious swing
