MPC500 Internal Pics

certain things are deffo worth buying from the US i would say, mainly due to universal power supplies - so serato scratch, rane 57, mpc500 or 1000, yep all good. you aint gonna get a warranty worth much (i think its only 90 days and wont be honoured in uk?) but most of these items (1k pads poss exception) should hold up pretty good.

im gonna try asking a friendly us citizen to buy one (i pay for it first, naturally!), ditch superfluous packaging and post it gift-style so as to fly under the customs radar...

about the PSU, you mean you can just get an AC adaptor from maplin and bob's your uncle? (the akai site says "Power requirement: 12v DC 600mA (negative tip)")

you're right about the warranty. the only thing that would worry me is the shipping. if UPS drop it and you've declared it as a gift worth 25 quid, your screwed, as far as i know.

even with VAT and import duty, im sure it would still be significantly cheaper

not sure. i looked into this a bit when i got my monome 40h (but i ended up buying one used from a guy in the UK)

assuming an MPC falls into the same category for import duty, then it's about 3.5%, plus 17.5% VAT, plus shipping.

so if a 500 is 650 dollars, that's 790 dollars, plus maybe 50 dollars for the shipping, so call it 850 to be safe. which is 430 quid at the moment. so you'd save maybe 100 quid.

all that's guesswork, mind.
