JJ 3.03 is out

Not much to get excited about, but at least he's still working on it

(i know i know, this should be in a diff forum, but I can't get used to going over there - too much 1000 talk )

However..regarding the OS...it basically repairs what was working properly in the first place and/or fixes the bugs that were in the previous JJ OS?

Just the fact that you can hear the pads in the "sample assign" window is good enough for me. Also, the MODE+PAD11.. hit that little arrow, and you can do a lot of parameter adjustments in that screen. Would be really nice if you could adjust the start and decey points in that window also. Currently, you have to go to a different area to adjust those settings.

Which is what older MPCs can do....

That is why I am a strong advocate for giving the MPC 2500 all the functions of the MPC 3000 and 2000XL...

I agree, there a few things on the XL that I'd like to see on the 2500.

Completely agree. It's almost there now. Is there anything that missing? Innitially, I did miss not having the different modes on the numeric buttons, but that's not too hard to get over.. plus the pads can take a beating a lot better than the number buttons. All in all tho (and I haven't made a complete beat with this OS) 3.03 is nice. I would pay for the cd functions in the later OS tho. This guy deserve much props for what he's doing. He's like our version of Roger linn.

The new JJ OS for the 1000 is reported to remove the ability to make MIDI program changes from the main screen...did the latest JJ OS for the 2500 do the same?

Not yet. I believe it's linked to the arrival of midi part editing, which I guess we'll see in JJ's commercial release in January. I have to admit, I'll miss that feature.

Yes there is. On the 3000, if you sample a loop from a song thats 120bpm but you can't match drums to it because the tempo changes about 4 times during the loop, and the loop is meant to be slowed down to 94bpm.. so you copy it 4 times, then place it across the 4 pads on the top, then slow down the pitch so you can hear it the way its supposed to be in the beat. Now that it sounds proper in pitch.. in the sample edit screen you begin to chop the sounds so you can tap out your loop and blend it in so it matches the beat at 94bpm, starting from the begining of each sound you begin to chop.. and if you hit the pads right next to the other.. the status on the screen changes to the status of that particular pad and you can hear and feel how your chopped loop is sounding by playing top 4 pads across the top while chopping. In the end your loop comes out perfect to the beat.

Well in the 2500 you can't do that at all because in the TRIM window ALL the damn pads become that 1 sound.. so theres no way of telling what the other sample is doing. Remember you're chopping by sound in a chop loop not by the beat so you NEED to go back and forth to know what you did on that other pad to match the sound smoothly. PLUS, in TRIM mode you can't trim with the pitch slow, it trims right back at the tempo of the original sample, so basically you must chop the sample in 120bpm.. sucks. I miss that on the 3000.

Sure is.. I haven't used a 3000 in a few years, but I do remember that. I haven't need to use that, but it would be a nice addition. I don't think that would be too hard to implement in a new OS.

I do understand how users are saying that "it would be a nice addition" but for producers that do this particular style its absolutely VITAL! Or we just go to another machine or keep the one we have and keep everybody wondering how we flipped that record the way we did..
