2000xl- s-900 hand shake midi?

I've got my 2000xl hooked up to my s-900 in the hand shake method, i want everything going through the outputs on my 900 to individual channels on my mixing desk. I've got it sending the sequences through the 900 to seperate channels but it is playing the default sound in the 900 not the sounds assigned to the pads on my 2000? please help i've tried everything

i think if you want sounds to play from the outs in your s900 the sounds have to actually be in the s900 and just triggered by the mpc
