yessss peeps

Jus bout to get my hands on a spankin new 2500, ive only had limited exposure to the 2000xl, few beats done with no frills - no compression etc... any do's and donts before i hand over my hard earned doe?

i sample mostly but never really nuttin over 30secs so im presuming the mem upgrade is not essential... gonna get a 40 or 80gig HD - dont have a keyboard yet and wont do for time so thas not really part of the equasion.

ive heard mixed reviews bout the 2500 esp the OS & the cdrom drive firstly not being able to bun & that it slows/locks the system up while spinnin up... what OS should i be starting with? any essential cables or add ons?

Also does the 25 have a 'mute off' for all the keys or is it still jus the 2 you assign??... am i right in thinkin u can hook ur pc straight up to it for file transfer? are there any other uses?... any hints and tips on the setup for gettin started quick on production rather that nuff sampling an trimmin?... im gonna cop a tutorial or 2 too, prolly will go for a dvd so i can learn quicker but im open to all media... pls peeps let me have some recommendations to start me off on the right track.

Much appreciated if u feel to reply... Pzzzzzzz.

I'm sure many will come in and answer your questions one at a time.

Me personally, all I can say is read this month's Sos review on the beast then decide.
But I would buy it simply for the added improvements, the efx, the outs etc.. a ton of worthwhile additions to an already great product.

I just wish they would sort the filter problem out and then we'd all be happy.

Dig through this forum for as much info as you can. Their are a few bugs with the new OS so, be prepared for those and know what they are. Other than that, the books/DVD should get you started.

What are the filter problems?

There are only two issues that are concerns with forum members in the Akai OS:

1. MTC slave
2. Saving/overwriting files

Both of these have not been an issue with my use of the MPC 2500. However, some in the forum claim to have these problems. Once you own an MPC 2500 and run into these issues, you can install the JJ OS which is reported to improve these areas.

If you push the resonance on the filter, you get digital clipping even though there is a built-in filter attenuator.

It's in this month's Sound On Sound magazine.

Worth a read.
