ROLLING SNARES AND HI'S

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO ROLL MY SNARES AND HI HATS ON THE MPC1000, I TRIED QUANTIZING USING THE 1/8 1/16 1/32 BUT NONE OF THESE SEEM TO WORK....CAN SOMEONE IN HERE ANSWER THIS FOR ME?

you gotta hold the note repeat button while pressing the the snare pad

turn off time correct and play it by hand, and then go bump the notes in step edit

like the dude said hold the note repeat and put the quantize on 1/32 or 1/32t

My way: Put the snare on 4 pads, tweak each one slightly different (Lp cutoff, tune, sample start, volume envelope...), then try. For best results try till you can play them without the quantization...

that sounds cool to get that live drummer sound

how do u bump the notes in step edit? do u do the same thing with drums

1 - enter step edit
2 - navigate to the note you want to move
3 - copy that note
4 - delete that note
5 - paste the note in desired position.

do NOT use the move function in 2.1 because it is buggy.

best way to do this is not to use single hits, but to sample vinyl. that way you have multiple takes of the same instrument that you can use to make a more convincing roll.

also a huge question is what you consider "rolling" snares and hihats

1 - ultra quantised, quick hitting rolls ala recent fad production
2 - the stoned funk drummer

damn, i've been using move since day one. what exactly is the bug?

often when i used the move function in step edit notes would remain in the sequence edit but not be played. irritating bug. you'd have to delete the track. it's been a while.

this one works good too....set up a track for snares.

go into recording mode, tap in
your snare at 1/16th notes
stop recording
restart your sequence and play over the chosen snare in your sequence holding the note repeat. stop recording, change your time signature to 1/16th(3) go back into recording lay down some more snare action holding the note repeat...voila! you should have some pretty decent sounding snare rolls, just hit erase wherever needed to clean up funny sounding snare hits.
