Hard drive access?

im thinkin about gettin a Hard drive for my 1k, but can i access the HD on my PC when i hook it up via USB just like the Cf card?

im guessin the answers no, but i just wanted to know for sure

the answer is a big fat yes actually.

you can access the HD via USB - you just have to select your source in the SAVE screen before you try to connect to your PC.

it would definitely suck if you couldn't do this! get a HD tho, it's worth it. and when you do, do a search on this about saving issues with HD, unless you have the JJ OS cos there are some problems with the AKAI one.

damn, im usin Akai's OS 2.0 is it gonna have the same saving problems as when i use the CF when i use HD ? like the directory error shit?

does the JJ OS have these bugs fixed for the HD?

I JUST BOUGHT A MPC1000 AND I'M ALREADY OUT OF MEMORY SPACE...HOW MUCH WILL YOU HAVE WITH YOUR HD?

depends on what size HD i get, i think the highest i heard someone use was 100 gb but i thats way to much for anyone i think i might cop a 60 gig or somethin

i have the akai 2.0 and there is definitely saving problems. you can't overwrite old copies of stuff cos it corrupts basically everytime. I'm not sure if the JJ OS fixes this, but i'm pretty sure it does. I've gotta get a hold of it!

there is info on the AKAI website about which HD's are compatible, but there are also one's that different cats from this site have tested and that work fine. that list is in here somewhere, at the top i think.

you do need the HDM from AKAI to put in the HD, this is not an adapter but just a small bracket to hold the HD in place. It is very simple to mount and ridiculously overpriced.

saving/loadin on the jj os is always on point, never lost anything and unlike akai's sh1t it saves folders alphabetically

if you are having problem with "out of memory" it is not because of the lack of a hard drive, it's because you have only the standard 16mb of RAM in your mpc. i would upgrade to the 128mb of RAM and get a hard drive. The hard drive is only for storage, not streaming audio.

yes they do and im luvin every save bug free min of it!!!!

thanks for the info, i just copped a 40GB HD today and im lookin forward to hookin it up

on the OS saving issues...i really wish AKAI would smarten up and fix that bug in a OS update. Who is runnin the AKAI company? Are they not aware of JJ stealin money that they could of had?? IDIOTS!!

i dont think theyre stealing money at all. to me it seems more like charity work what jj did....first of all, akai doesnt charge for softaware updates , second of all the amount of work it must have took jj to develop the os is worth way more then what they are charging for it. they probably did it just to have it on their resume more then they did it to make money or steal from akai, either way i got mad love for jj for doin their thing and blessin us with the ill os
