I agree its becuase of its build quality. Feature wise, the 1000 blows alot of the older MPC's out of the water.

i just posted this elsewhere, but here it is again - vst says that the pads on the 1000 are the only thing that seem to be built less durably than any other mpc - this includes data wheel, buttons, and slider.

Feature wise....that is correct. But long time MPC users will still not replace their MPCs for the newer models. Because although the newer models are feature rich as a contained unit, there are better alternatives that when paired with an older MPC...the combo can't be rivaled.

For example...Akai finally added chop shop to the newer MPCs. Well users of older MPCs that chopped alot of samples used/uses Recycle. This program is years beyond want an MPC can do. Next....lets say the improved timestretching and pitch shifting in the newer MPCs. Greatly enhanced features. But for those of us that used older MPCs, we used software for those chores (take your pick...)..again, years beyond what these latest MPCs can do.

No don't get it twisted...I am an MPC head...been one when many of you didn't know what a sampler/drum machine was.....but quite a few features of these newer MPCs, I would rather do in software.

But could it be that the reason why some of you guys got **** up pads, is because maybe you were to rough on them sh*ts?!?!

nah, this is not the case. they were just poorly designed. i have no idea why some people's pads still work, but i'd say most of them will be dead in a year.

edit - just realized what an alarmist statement that was. it's a lengthy story and explanation but if you're interested in the whole pad thing read up on what's here in the FIX YOUR BROKEN PADS thread and the DIY PAD SOLUTION thread

you think the black versions too?

yes, black version too. that's my prediction. no glue job could save that design.

cheapest mpc BECAUSE of glue under the pads -- or more specifically because the entire pad assembly was different than prior mpcs. akai set up a straw man under the trademark grey rubber pads.

as of the consumers, "they didn't even see it coming."

here's the deal - the old mpc pads have interlink type FSRs. the mpc1000 has a different type of sensor that is not as self contained - there has to be some moving part for the material to function. kind of a lengthy story.

that's why it was the cheapest mpc - but believe me on this: akai made and is making a BOATLOAD of money on skimping those those pads. akai mpc1000 is the most sold mpc ever = that's a ton of money.

Because it is the cheapest...but the MPC 3000 and 2000XL are the reasons why MPCs are famous...

i bet you anything that akai has made more money off mpc1000 than any other mpc model even if it was the least expensive mpc because they skimped on the composition. i doubt a bulk a contract with interlink or a similar manufacturer is cheap. that's a lot of money saved.

That's not new news. But the MPC 3000 quickly replaced the MPC 60. The MPC 3000 is the most sought after MPC..and people still pay good money for used ones. A used MPC 60? Just a few hundred bucks..sorta like a used 1000.
