MPC and Reason: WHat am I doing Wrong?

I've been through the forums, and I've RTFM'd so many times I can recite it word for word. Somethings just not working in my setup. I've watched Sparqs video but still nothing. Here's the deal:

I have an MPC1000 BLK, Korg Kontrol 49 keyboard controller (which has midi out A and B, and Midi in on the back), and Reason running on a Powerbook G4. In Reason, If I pull up for instance the NN19 sampler, I can trigger the sounds using the pads on my mp. However, I am not able to play the keys of my Kontrol49 over a beat in my MP. And, when I do trigger reason using the pads of the mp the sound doesn't play back through my monitors. It plays back through the powerbook speakers.

What am I missing? I'm figuring it's gotta be something very simple. I have everything hooked up correctly per the manual, but I cannot play Reason sounds into my mp. What the heezy am I missing?

i dont use reason, but this is my set up

i have 2 lines running from the outs of my interface to the ins of the mpc
ths allows me to play vsts or whatever into the mpc while in record mode, mode pad 5, or thru mode, on the main screen hit shift f6 and turn it on.

i have 2 lines running from the outs of the mpc to the ins of my interface
this allows me to monitor and record whatever is playing on the mpc

my midi keyboard is an m audio oxygen 8, which connects through usb, so i can play instruments in my daw through usb while i have a midi line running from the midi out of the keboard to midi in 1 of the mpc now i can sequence with my keyboard as well as the pads.

i have a midi line running from my interface to the mpc midi in 2 so that in my daw i can set it to send midi out and can control the mpc with the computer.

i have a midi line running from midi out a on the mpc running to my interface so i can control my daw

and a line from midi out b running to a korg em 1 so i can control the synth and drum sounds with the mpc.

if you go to the midi screen in the mpc with this setup, mode pad 9 and set the soft thru to "as track" you can control whatever midi channel thru the mpc, meaning that i control my external sound module by running a line from the keyboard, a midi line out of the mpc into the sound module, and on the main screen change the midi channel to 1 for synth 1, 2 for synth 2 and 10 for drums. you should be able to do the same thing to control a daw if that is how you want to set it up.

Alright, I tried that hookup and it allows me to use my mp to play the sounds in reason, as well as play my korg to play sounds into reason. However, it does not allow me to play sounds into my mp, over top of a beat that I've composed that is running from my mp.

Where am I going wrong with this?

1. do you have instrument cables running from the outs of the keyboard to the ins of the mpc?

2. if yes, are you trying to record the audio into the mpc? or everything into the daw?

if you are trying to record audio into the mpc, you will have to go into the record mode. once you are there, you should be able to hit a key and see the meter move.

if you are trying to go through the mpc to the daw, on the main screen, push and hold the shift button, and hit f6 i think. change the thru from off to on and the audio will play through the mpc.


scratch that, you are talking about recording sounds from reason to the mpc...

in that case run instrument lines from your audio interface outs, to the ins of the mpc.

press mode pad 5 i think to get to record mode. (im not home so i cant see my mp)

also you have to set your daw's mixer output to the correct outputs, mine is set to 3 and 4 since i am running outputs 3 and 4 to inputs 1 and 2 of the mpc.

I have Reason but not the pro. Not using it as much as maybe I should.

ok, here's the thing. first if you can play reason via your korg, and you said you can play reason via the mpc pads what it sounds like you're missing is a midi cable going from the korg kontrol's midi out to the mpc's midi in.

The reason why you can't hear reason coming out of the same speakers as your mpc is because reason is not passing sound to the mpc. it is only passing midi data. if you want to hear both come out of the same speaker, you will need some sort of mixer to connect both your computer's output and the mpc's output.
