WTF!!!!! I almost threw it out the window!!!!!!!!

I made the coldest song I ever composed. Saved the entire program in the wrong folder---deleted the seq, and song/program/then went back the root in the HD and made a new folder--then the bytch crashed---it locked up on me.!!!!!!!!!!! I did everything I could--had to turn it off--turned it back on and the new folder name was there but nothing in the folder. I swear if I didn't pay a nice sum of money for this boy it would've gotten smashed the fuk up!

What is the proper way to save new folders in the latest Akai OS?

i usually name my seq, samples, programs as i work on them and then i usually create a new folder, then save to it...

am i doing something special here? i haven't experienced any of these save issues mentioned on this site... i use OS 1.1

cre8tive, that's such a familiar story. exact same symptoms of what happened to the 1000 on 2.1. the new folder was there on reboot, empty.

the safe workaround i used was just to create the new folder before you made the beat, or create a folder while in usb mode

just dont make new folders unless you don't have anything on your ram you wouldn't mind losing cuz it's very unpredictable - often it works fine, but every now and then comes the new folder freeze

I am using OS 1.22. I haven't lost one project.

Since the folder bug surfaced in an earlier OS, I have been saving the same way since. When I am ready to save, I create a new folder and save entire memory to the folder. This is the most perfect way to save. When I reopen the project to continue working, I repeat the entre process and save the project to a new folder...and delete the previous folder. This works best for me. In the past, there were issues with overwriting files. As of late, I tried overwriting files to see if I can produce past problems. EVen though I couldn't produce the past bugs, I continue to same using the method above.

What's funny is that I was browsing through the JJ OS forum and saw a recent thread about saving issues.........

I had a strange one the other day. I saved to a new folder . I opened the new folder and found nothing in it, a few days later I went to load a different folder and it saved that project to this other folder, but the messed up thing is that it overwrote my other project SEQ,Samples and Mixer settings. The other project had totally different names, Now if it had differnt names and even if I messed up and saved to the other folder It still should not have overwrite my song, Correct?

what you can do is load your HD via USB on a computer, create your folder, and then go back to your MPC and save entire memory in that folder. that's what saved me when i was using the akai os.

1. Create new folder before starting new track
2. Save MPCs entire memory to that new folder once track is complete

These are the only steps you have to follow with the Akai OS. This are the same steps I take when saving projects in Nuendo or DP5.

This works flawlessly for me as well. I haven't had any problems since. However, I will try to reproduce the bug, and report my findings.

Re-reading cre8tive post, it doesn't sound as if that would have helped him during his situation.

Also, you can still create a folder after you have started a project and save to the folder. I also do this without any problems...however, I prefer the first method I already listed since this is the same work flow I use with my digital audio workstations.

I will add that the Akai OS 1.22 works fine for me. If it doesn't work fine for you, you have the option of using the JJ OS. The JJ OS has its own forum for tips/tricks/bug reports

unless you have created a folder b4 starting to work, you run the risk of having the mpc freeze while creating a folder.

creating a folder from a computer, worked for me, if i hadn't already created one b4 starting anything...

So..instead of just creating a folder before you start...you would go through the process of connecting the MPC to your PC, engaging the USB functions, in order to create a folder using your computer? That's not a smart way of doing things.

of course jahrome, but sometimes, for whatever reason, the folders have not been created beforehand...you have to create new ones as you go...get it? good. that is when there is a risk of the mpc freezing.

it s simple. the HD sleeps, and the MPC freezes when it tries to create a folder. loading it on a computer seems to prevent that. that prob is related to OS and HD seek access time and sleep mode.

akai has confirmed to me that they are aware of the problem, but they have trouble reproducing it consistently

I've lost sh!t using software and hardware. This past summer I lost my entire hard drive on my work computer and hadn't backed up in three months, so I lost all of my new work. It cost $5000 to recover 60% of the drive. That shit was like getting kicked in the stomach.

On the music front, I had a power outage occur the night I had created some heat. I hate it. With my MPC, I usually create a folder on the internal harddrive and save entire memory. That way I save all seqs, sounds and settings. Then I back that up on my computers external hard drive via USB. That USB hookup is a great feature on the MPC.
