Question???Invest in Pro toolz

I'm 16 right bout to get me a job and invest all my money in equipment...for recording do yall think i should cop those macs the producers be havin in there studioz and learn pro toolz...i wanna do everything they do like record vocals edit songz...i also heard like even if the artists is not there they can send the vocals to and fro...what yall think???

Cop the Digi 002 or whatever Pro Tool version you are going to use. It is the industry standard recording software. It is kinda weak in the midi area but if your using the MPC a sequencer I dont see the need for using the midi in PT. It is very user friendly as well.

Yea im gonn be usin my mpc and i think i may cop a triton cuz too many people are sampling these dayz itz getting boring...i really dont rep this but im from Freeport...i dont kno what version im gonna be usin...i guess the best one lol

i think too many people are using tritons these days and not being creative and sampling. but i guess thats just me. how does sampling make things boring. i rather hear a chopped up loop from primo or alchemist than some dirty south triton beat.

not that sampling is boring..the fact that i hear the same sample ova again...theres no originality..listen to my beatz i use rare thingz whenever i can...alchemist i have no idea where he getz his samples thats what makes it fun...

there is sampling where someone takes a sample and might speed it up a little and put drums behind it but thats it like kanye west. than there is sampling and than chopping and creating ur own beats with just little bits and pieces of instruments here and there and fitting them togther like a puzzle like alchemist and primo. thats why u never know where alchemist gets his shit. he will take bits and pieces of a song and just piece them togethr in his own way so u cant even really tell.

If you got the cheese and the support to begin to develop a studio at 16, more power to ya. I just urge you to take your time and make sure that this is what you wanna invest not so much money, but some serious time into.

That said, Pro Tools is the bomb. I use it with a Digi001, Mac G4 and a MPC3000. I like dude's recommendation of the Digi002, but I suggest the MBox ($450) and maybe an older iMac if you gotta get a Mac. That all could cost you a total of about a grand plus. Otherwise, you could be talking being about 18 or 19 by the time you get your monies and functional studio together.

Peep game, I got a PC built and copped tha Digi001, and it's doin me great.... not knockin the Mac at all, cuz they good, but my PC is a killah, and it runs ma Digi001 well.... I got a MPC2000xl and a Motif 8, and I love ma keyboard beats, but dawg, don't knock samplin, cuz if u doin it well, it could come out a hell of a lot better than a keyboard beat, depends on what floats ur boat.... anyways back to tha question, Pro Tools has done me right so far... I had the Mbox, and never could get it to work up to ma standard, so I sold it and copped the Digi001, which you can get used bout the same price as you can get the MBox new... but you really gotta be a husler if you tryin 2 do this at a young age... Me... I support ma music thang by playin piano at 2 churches ($250 a week) and workin at Standard Federal bank (9.50/hour) and thats just because I was lucky enuff 2 be 17 workin in a bank, and lucky enuff to know how to play the piano... But don't rush into it... If you need to, then for now, just cop you a lil digital studio, like a Vs880 for $400, and do ya thang on that for a while... Then when things start movin... then do ya thang, and hell by then it'll prolly be a new Pro Tools series out thats even betta... but thats just ma book of advice..

A straight keyboard with no sampling or a keyboard with sampling. My ASR10 standalone beats are just as hot if not hotter than my standalone 2kxl beats. I got some stand-alone triton beats that are sometimes more mean and sometimes are more fire than my 2kxl beats.

It all depends on the person I think.

Nah Lamp, I didn't mean it any type of way, cuz trust me, i been playin the piano all my life, and i can drop some tight right stand-alone motif beats... thats not what I meant... I was just saying don't be so quick to judge sampling, because they CAN come out better than keyboard beats, not sayin that they WILL........ Really i'm just saying don't egive more glory to one than the other... because ur right, it does depend on the person, but i'm just saying you shouldn't judge one or criticize just one

trust me the deication or the money aint a problem..im definatly a hustla..i think i may start with a hrd disk recorder first..to learn the basics of recording...vocals u kno

The programs aren't the issue as much as the analog to digital side of the audio. In a few minutes there will be some serious free software available.
A program called Ardour is completely free. It will be available in PC and Mac OS versions shortly. In the meantime, the hardware is your major concern. Since we're talking Pro Tools here and since I'm a Pro Tools fan, I'd say check out the MBox. It's about $500 and comes with Pro Toos too.
