ok, so i bought the MPC tutorial book.

It's very good, everyone should go out and get it.

Anyway, i came to the Using the MPC1000 with Recycle section. Apparently i can chop a beat, save it as a .MID file, and then load that .MID file as a sequence, and play that beat back exactly as it was before.

the .MID file is loading into the next blank sequence, but then when i press play nothing happens, and there is nothing in step edit showing that it loaded any midi information at all.

What might i be doing wrong?

Is there a chance the new OS doesn't load .MID files properly, where as the old AKAI one does?

Any answers guys?

hey ya done this when i first got my mpc... i thouhgt the mpc would read my mid files and it does..the mpc will dump the midi file to a new sequence but the mid file wont work for internal sampled sounds..ull need a keyboard or a sound module with 16multitimbral...this blows i know :-( but if u find a tracker that supports .seq and midi note info displayed in semitone and cents u might be able to do what u want this way, thats if u wanted to use ur internal sampled sounds...just a thought theres prolly no such tracker program..this just an idea

did you load your waves?

indeed.

btw,
im getting into using recycle the other direction: sometimes i play a beat 'live' on the mpc (or other synths) and sample into my daw.... then if i like what i did but something is a little off, i can 'recycle' it, put it into ableton/battery and quantize just a couple of notes or whatever.

in other words, using recycle like a 'time correct' for continuous audio data

sorry a little ot, i know..

yep, i loaded all the waves, but it doesn't even show anything in step edit. even if i hadn't loaded the waves, it should still show something in step edit...right?

Sorry, I didn't notice this post, but I just got your email and responded directly to your inbox.

I checked the tutorial and everything is working okay - basically, the problem I believe is that after you first load the program, and then the MIDI file, you then have to ensure that track 1 in the MIDI file is assigned to the program loaded (TS-1). I'll update the tutorial to make that clearer.

Did that solve it for you?

feeling a bit stupid now!! yep, that's solved that. I just loaded it up and pressed play and hoped for the goods, and because it always loads up on track 2 first up i didn't even think to look in track 1.

Thanks heaps man, this is going to completely change the way i make beats! awesome. if you haven't got the book yet, do yourself a favour people. quality stuff.

Hmm, I dont understand.
I just chopped up a break in recycle in 8 slices.
First I exported the mid file, then I exported the wav files.
I copied all the files to the mpc and started opening the mid file and afterwards all the slices in wav format.
If I goto step edit / Seq edit al the info is there, but when I click play theres no sound.
All help is appreciated...

did you set up your pads chromatically? did you assign your wav files to the correct pads? did you make sure you selected the correct program in track 1?

It's actually a very easy process when you're shown how it all works, but there's just a few too many steps for me to explain it really well.

definitely recommend spending some money and buying tutors book. He does a great job of explaining this all in there, with folders full of sequences and samples and even a blank chromatic program. He really does all the hard work for you.
