Same in appearance, but not in internal design.

Now that the MPC 1000 is now no longer the cheapest MPC on the market, I think the pad design should be revised. Akai should at least sell the new 1000s with the original pad designs like in the other MPCs and offer current 1000 users "upgrade kits" complete with installation instructions. If they don't do that, they would be ruining what otherwise would be a great machine. To tell you the truth, I think they should've done that as soon as they started making the black 1000s.

Just get the 1000 if you can afford it. More options. Regardless you wont be disappointed. Youll be lab rat if you get the 500.

no the mpc 500 has all the pads on one sheet. the mpc 1000 has individual pads not on a sheet. The mpc 1000 pads have a design flaw which causes them to fail with too much use.
