I might have bad ears and I can't hear properly,but for me both of them are the same,and more then that, these two demos got absolutely crap quality of sound..Seems like It's never MPC's sound..

Does it sound like shit? Everyone's entitled to an opinion.

But those samples have no processing..no eq...no mixing..nothing. Just a collection of samples playing in those MPCs. As I mentioned before, they were recorded into Wave Lab using a decent quality siganl patch...Yamaha 02R mixer (slaved via BNC cables), RME 9652 digital sound card..nothing more.

which one is which ? just listened few times to each test and come to conclusion I like Test1 more cuz drums are crispier and more punchy

Today, I tested the timing of the MPC 2500 and the 3000. I used the MIDI recording functions of Nuendo and set both MPCs as MTC Masters. I recorded a 2 bar sequence on both MPCs consisting of a repeating snare that hit on every 1/16th note. I recorded two tracks of MIDI into Nuendo using each MPCs (one after the other). I set Nuendo's transport to display the sequences in seconds. Next, I used Nuendo's List Editor to display where the snares hit in time.

RESULTS:

When I compared the two MIDI sequences of the MPC 3000 (as recorded into Nuendo), 1/16th snares of each track were precise to .001 seconds off from one another.

When I compared the two MIDI sequences of the MPC 2500 (as recorded into Nuendo), 1/16th snares of each track were precise to .003 seconds off from one another.


So there you have it ladies/gents. The MPC 3000 (although not perfect) is .002 seconds more accurate than the MPC 2500.

Please note that the QUANTIZE functions on NUENDO is turned OFF. When Nuendo QUANTIZE is turned on, the MPCs produced exactly the same results.

Hope this latest test is sighful to someone......

Just got finished doing the exact same test with the MPC 2500 with the latest Jj OS 3.04.

The JJ OS produced the same results (as far as timing) as the Akai 1.22 OS.

Wait, are you still gonna test the AD converters?

I'd be much more interested in AB'ing the sampling converters.

The DA test was pretty interesting tho. I didn't think I was gonna notice much of a difference but I definitely noticed a difference in sound quality on my monitoring system. It was a much bigger difference than I was expecting. I seriously thought Test 1 was going to be the 3000. I preferred it more.

I owned a 3000 for a very short period of time and then traded it in for a 2500. 3000 definitely had alot of charisma and it just plain looked dope but the 2500 is just easier to work with and interface with a computer.

I did but just not got around to posting audio....but I wrote about it earlier in the thread. The MPC 3000 AD converters are assisted by a preamp/gain control while the 2500 has none. In this regard, the MPC 3000 wins hands down.

it would still be intresting to hear the difference between the 2. even if the mpc3k wins.

i heard your first test on my tannoy monitors and i the think the 3k sounds a bit more punchier. better "defined"....but thats just my personal opinion..

Before I revealed which was which....most people thought the sample from the 2500 was the 3000.

In the process of re-arranging my project studio..so I will look into furthering this test if anyone is interested...

I think it's because people expected the 3k to be crunchy for some reason, and the 2500 happened to sound harsher than the 3k. Tho not all that 'gritty', 3k highs are rolled off a bit and sounds 'warmer' for the lack of better word..
