Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
BySeries Fri Mar 12, 2004 1:58 pm
Any else using both.

I have a request about having the MPC4000 and DPS24 interact more closely. I would really like to see the FADERS on the DPS24 send midi out information. This would allow the faders to show up in the event list.

Any thoughts?

yo series, welcum to the forum.
Yeah, I got both da 4K and the Deeps. That's a tight combo fo' sure. Da best hardware sequencer/sampler with da best hardware recorder/mixer, me thinks.
How long ya got that combo? 'coz the deeps already sends out midi controllers from the faders and pans, ya just gotta setup the user banks. But in mine setup, I don't use midi faders with da 4K, 'coz with da new part and pad mixers in 1.51, I do all my midi controls with Q-link knobs and sliders.
How did ya hook up da 4K to the deeps? I got the ADAT card in da 4K sendin' 8 outs to the MPLP input of the deeps, plus the stereo out, wordclock out of the deeps to da 4K. Fo' sync, I got midi in/out of the deeps to midi in-II and midi out-D of da 4K, usin' mtc and mmc, I can control da combo from both machines. And with da new AKSYS, I can fly samples to tracks and tracks to samples and edit'em in the 'puter, all via USB. Sweet! 8)

YO GUYS, fellow DPS 24/mpc4k user!!!!!!! I didnt think anyone else had the same setup, nice one....dont those two tilt up lcd's look tidy????
hehe, anyway I think I will use the adats between the two, i've only just got my dps24(within the last 3 weeks) and once I got over only being able to record 8 seperate mono tracks at once....
correct me if im wrong but you have 4 groups, 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 panning input tracks hard left and hard right, only gives you 8 seperate mono tracks that you can record to the HD. they advertise the DPS24 as being able to record 24 tracks at once, which it can, but they have to be mixed from the inputs into stereo submixes giving you no flexibilty at mixdown.........

Ill drop you guys an email off the board in case you dont check here anymore

you mind continuin the disussion onboard!!! i don't have the dps! but the last times i passed by akaipro.com i always passed by the dps site instead of the 4k one ... :!:

and a question: how are the fx's on the dps? basically the same as on the 4k? and: comp and gate are for each channel - right? how are they? again 4k like fxs or better?

and if one of you guys doesn't mind givin an overall overview on the dps (from its own experience), what's good, what sucks, .... would be great as well! ... but of course ... feel free to tell!

... and actually: now that you've started this thread here i m reaaly interested how the 4k interacts with the dps, coz thats the most important thing! whats wrong about it? should be aright - shouldn't it :?:

so keep the thread rollin please!

thanx

Hey, what's up, dudes?

I have the combo, I'm still a newbie on the 4k, but I have an unusual tip. It's already on the DPSworld forum, so if you go there, you might have already seen it:

When in sync, if you start at 00.00.00.00, the MPC won't play the first note. Why, I don't know. Just start a couple seconds later every time, or do this trick:
Program the first sequence to be 261.4 BPM, 1/16 time for 1 measure. This is less than 1 sec. When you start at 00.00.00.00, the first beat plays. Even after you turn a song into a sequence, this still works.

Boywithpez007, if you need more than 10 mono/5 stereo outs, the other Akai samplers have 16 mono/8 stereo outs (?), and Giga has 32 outs. I like the clarity of the MPC lcd more than the brightness of the DPS lcd.

co-sign! 1 blank bar works fine 4 me.

Yeah, if ya use the groups. Ya gotta use "direct" recordin' patch to record mo' than 8 inputs to separate tracks.

Whooa doc beat are you saying I can record 12 serperate mono tracks using that patch stuff??? just by assigning Input 1 directly to track 1, Input 2 directly to track 2 and so on??????
Thats madd thanks heaps for that, The manual is a fkn peice of shiat, It expects your some $400k Neve console dude whos running some commercial studio and just decided to buy a little toy to play with at home. It explains the meanings of the labels on the buttons which would be more or less common sense....

anyway Ill shut up, just another fine example of why these forums are so good.

yeah, man! that's it. check the patch presets "ADCs direct" or "inputs direct".
Ya can patch the lines inputs and the digital inputs too and record all 24 separate tracks if ya wanna, ya kno what I'm sayin'?

Damn that sht was easy, what a fkn headfck, I was ready to throw the fkn dps against the wall cos I wanted to record some live band stuff and 8 tracks wasnt really going to cut it..... mmmmm 12 tracks feel the power he-man style!!!!
your da man doc beat....

If I add 1 blank bar whilst working with a vocalist or a guitarists song it puts me off the whole way thru bthe sequence because the numbers arent even so I always add a nice round 4 bar intro and cut it on mixdown.

Impatience. Like I said, a second or two is all you need, but I want the sh*t yesterday! I'm weird like that, I guess.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the 4k, not the DPS. If you want real power, you could get an 8 ch pre with ADAT, and record 20 tracks at once via direct-to-tracks. With transfer-mode, you can actually record up to 24 tracks at once!
