Aside from patent issues that might exist, I'm curious as to why another company has not put out a newer and far improved MPC? Don't get me wrong, I love my MP 1K and it has changed my workflow 100%, but it seems odd that people still rock this finicky and limited (tech-wise) hardware.
How can it be that there are no alternatives that would offer (1) more stability (2) large RAM (3) huge hard drives, etc. Users have to test hard drives because many don't work. It also appears that users have a very hard time getting Akai support and parts (e.g., HD hard drive kit). It's odd. I'm just curious as to why you guys think that someone else hasn't created a new version of this product.
