2500 OS 1.22 and MTC questions

After these settings, press play on the MPC. It should state that it is waiting for Midi Time Code. Now, was you start Nuendo, the MPC should start playing. However, stopping Nuendo will not stop the MPC 2500, which is one of the issues with the MPCs MTC slave as well as the fact that you have to actually press play on the MPC to get it ready for MTC.

jahrome, I will take you up on your offer of a walk through, I am using Nuendo and wish to slave my 2500.
I have been trying for 6 months to get this to work and i am convinced its hardware issue but who knows. I was going to send it back to Akai to to let them have a go, but I will wait untill the christmas period is over.

You should be able to use the settings above and it should work,

No Joy, The mpc plays in slave mode when i press play, it does not seem to be able to tell when its in slave mode. OS Akai 1.22 and JJ 3.04.

Using the new JJ OS..try this....disconnect Nuendo for a moment..

MPC 2500

SYNC IN 1 (SLAVE)
MODE: Midi Time Code
Receive MMC OFF


SYNC OUT A (MASTER)
MODE OFF
Send MMC ON

Try this and let me know what happens....

The same settings work exactly the same with the Akai OS...however, when the MPC 2500 is waiting for MTC, it doesn't always display that it is waiting for an MTC signal.

ALso keep in mind that SEND MMC ON must be turned on.

This time mpc will not play, it displays the MMC message "MMC PLAY " but still nothing on jj 3.04. I have also noticed that it will not play tracks when set to slave. This did not happpen last night.

Akai os 1.22 mpc displays "waiting for midi time code" press play in nuendo and nothing i can see from my midi interface that there is midi activity from nuendo but the mpc is not picking up on it.

You did something different last night.

Turning SEND MMC ON and setting the MPC to slave...the MPC will not play without receiving a sync signal.

Jahrome, thanks for being patient with us. You and a few others have had much success syncing while others haven't. You have the expert users tag so we appreciate your help. It was mentioned earlier that MTC is better for tracking. What I want to do is create on the MPC, having it as the master beat clock for Reason. I can get this to work flawlessly. The click and timing is perfect for infinity and when I move the beat/bar cursor on the MPC, the cursor moves in Reason. Perfect. However, when I Rewire Reason into PT-Mpowered, and try to sync with MPC as master, all hell breaks loose. All I want to do is track the MPC audio into ProTools so that the audio tracks perfectly with my Reason tracks and then I can master and mix all on the computer. When I do this the clocks/clicks always go off, and MPC beats are off too. I have OS1.1 because all the posts say its the only one that has stable beat clock. WIth this setup, wouldn't I want to use beat clock rather than MTC? Will MTC keep beat clicks on point between Reason and the MPC2500? For now, I'm tracking a 2-track mix (usually 8 bars only) from the MPC into a stereo track in PT, matching the tempos. Then I trim and lock to the 8-bars. Then I just duplicate and manipute from there. I wish I could get proper sync for the entirty of the song, and put different MPC tracks in different PT tracks. That's what I really want to do. Sorry for the long post dude.

if that is the case then, what nuendo is sending out may not be compatible with the mpc. My transport settings have not changed from the posted screen dumps are they ok ?

But for real though.....

If the MPC syncs great with Reason..and then using Rewire it doesn't sync well, than that sounds like an issue with the software your are running with your PC. Either that, or you don't have the TEMPO set correctly. Using Midi Clock, you have to set the TEMPO on the MPC as well in your software.

Well, you are using a lot of stuff in your set. If you have the lastest software upgrades for all your programs, you should be able to use everything together. Are you using Reason's sequencer? Or are you using the MPC as the sequencer and Reason just as a sound module?


Note....once you have Reason Re-wired..it is now a slave to your DAW. All the sync settings at that point should be with your MPC and the transport/sync controls of your DAW.

Honestly...I find the best way is to create most of your sequences on the MPC and record into your DAW in one take......on multiple tracks. Whn you track MPC tracks one at a time...it iss less than ideal from what I have found. These additional takes can record up to .003 seconds off from one another.

First...make sure the the MIDI OUTPUT of your MIDI INTERFACE is connected to MIDI INPUT 1 of the MPC 2500.

Ok....load the JJ OS 3.04. In the SYNC MENU...make sure everything is OFF. The only thing you should have on is MTC SLAVE set to 1(MIDI INPUT 1).

Go into Nuendo. Make sure Time Code Source is set to Internal. Make sure Midi Time Code destination is CHECKED and you have the right MIDI interface selected. No other boxes should be checked in this menu for this walkthrough.

Now, get out of this menu to get to Nuendo's main screen. Press play on Nuendo's transport. Your MPC should start automatically. Please note that Nuendo's transport should be set to SYNC INT. If it says SYNC OFFLINE..than Nuendo is in SLAVE mode and this is not what you want.

Still no joy, no responce from mpc using the above settings .

Well, next, I would try switching the cable plugged into MIDI INPUT 1 to MIDI INPUT 2 on your MPC. Make sure that you make the appropriate settings on the MPC page...thus it should be SLAVE IN 2 versus 1.

Also, if that doesn't work, test your MPCs MIDI INPUTs using an external MIDI keyboard/keyboard controller. If you can record a sequence on your MPC with the controller...it would be highly unlikely there is something wrong with your MPC. It could be your copy of Nuendo.
