the mpc1000 is advertised as having the same "legendary velocity sensitive pads for expressive programming"

we DO NOT HAVE THE SAME PADS.
this is damn near lawsuit worthy for false advertising.

reading this shit makes me nervous about buying an mpc 1k. i don't want to pay even more for the more expensive models and the 500 looks too stripped down for me. with all the pad problems i've read about, i'm not sure if i'm gonna even purchase an mpc until i hear of a reliable solution.

Hi all,

first, great forum here, (first post :) )

anyway, started a few days ago trying to get this stuff figured out for a purchase for my son. Was leaning real heavy towards the 1000, but from doing a bit of research, mostly here, I've decided against it due to the well known pad issue.

I like the 2500 but don't think I can go that high.

I'm dissappointed and don't even have one.

seriously, this is a false advertising issue.
akai is ripping off consumers by saying the pads are the same.
ive broken 6 pads so far, and even after fixing them
they broke again.
without durable pads, this machine is not worth 1000 dollars.
because of the advertising issue,
akai should be GIVING a solution to this issue.
some kind of class action suit maybe??
im pretty pissed about it.

Has anyone tried actually contacting AKAI about this problem? Or are we just assuming that they know how many disgruntled users there are?

emailing akai is a bit like sending a letter to santa claus

By sparq Wed Dec 20, 2006 8:23 pm
to be honest, i don't believe akai is going to re-design the 1k. it will cost them too much to now redesign all new 1k's and to make a fix for all the existing 1k's that are already in homes/studios. that's why i think they made the 500's pads like the other mpc's. if there weren't so many comlaints about the 1k's pads i think the .5 pads would have been the same.

this is based off of a combination of my opinion and from what akai told me.

Haha, yeah, but how about if a bunch of people sent actual letters to Akai? Companies routinely ignore emails but paper correspondence often reaches an actual person.
