MPC 1000 Program Change as master

HI, i am having some trouble using my MPC 1000 to change sequences on my Boss DR5. Is there any oen who knows how to sucessfully use teh MPC 1000 as a master to program change any other machine.

The only time I had a problem w/the MPC PROGRAM CHANGE function was when I first tried to use it. I quickly realized this was because you have to enable it first, otherwise all it will do is change the numbers on the MPC screen. Highlight the PC function in the main screen and press WINDOW. Highlight the "NO"s and change them to "YES" -- unless you were smarter than me and figured that out the first time.

If that's not it and you've set the proper midi output channel then I can't be of much more help than that... I'm not familiar with the Boss unit but you may want to check it's available settings to make sure external PC is not being blocked/disabled.

I'm assuming the DR5 is supposed to respond to PC commands here...

I have used the DR5 with program change before. In fact i tested it with my roland xp 50 before i posted this chat. When i hook it up to the mpc nothing hapens on the DR5 when i turn the dial to change sequences.
Like every other machine i have been across the mpc is the hardest when it comes to changing sequences on another machine.

As long as I have PC send enabled w/the correct midi output and channel selected, I have no problem with this function on any of my devices. Is your midi connected directly or through an interface?

Also, what are you actually changing on the MPC when you try to switch programs? Are you switching from the Pgm: No. x (akai OS) or PC: x (JJ OS) fields on the main screen or are you just switching MPC sequences? If you are switching sequences then you have to preset or record the PC into the sequence first; it won't send PC otherwise.

I am using akai os 2.10 I am just changing sequences on the mpc nothing else. How do i record the program change even into a sequence?

3 possible methods:

1. Set the external device to transmit PC and switch to the desired program while the MPC is in record mode.

2. Set the desired PC number from the Pgm: field in the main screen.

3. Manually insert a PC command via Step Edit.


If you save the changes you make using any one of these methods the MPC should send your PC commands every time you play or change sequences. For more info I strongly suggest you consult chapters 3, 4, and 5 of the MPC 1000 v2 manual.
